    Karens at the range

Ever run into some Karen at the range that questions whether your firearm is California legal?

This topic interests me. As we all know, firearms has this weird macho deal where almost all males have to pretend to be experts in the field, but most have no idea of anything.

I personally care about one thing at a range; my safety. If you are safe, I don't care what comes out of the case.

BUT, and this is a huge but, nobody gets to enforce that mindset in others. If you want to take an illegally configured firearm to a public range, you're putting your freedom at risk because you cannot know if someone is going to drop a dime. It would be an a hole move, but it's their decision, not yours.

I would totally go all Karen and call the cops if I saw a Democrat with a non-compliant California firearm.

^^^What CG87 said. I haven't been to a public range for some time. I got a place in the country not far from where I live, have the owner's permission as long as we clean up after ourselves. In the past had bad experiences at public rangers but it that's all you got you do what you can just keep your head on a swivel.

Once I was sighting in my benelli with slugs and this Ken went up to the range officer and told him “ why is he shooting, stop him “. RO replied, he’s sighting in his Shotgun nothing wrong with that “ Ken went back to his safe spot kicking rocks. RO was Mr Ponytail dude 🙂.

Had a similar experience when my sons and I were sighting in our ARs. A couple of old geezers were muttering 'no body needs a gun like those'. They were using some muzzle loaders (and not even hitting the paper yet @50 yards). We just smiled at one another and moved on to the 100 yard range.

Yes, later we expressed the thought it wouldn't be any use to sway their opinion. Too old and were just CNN viewers. Didn't begrudge them their choice of enjoyment.

"CA legal" as in on roster or "CA legal" as in possibly an AW (or other banned config)?

Both. Ever have anyone challenge you to prove your firearm is CA legal and/or on the roster? Ever have to show a range officer if your semi-auto pistol's mags are really only 10 rounders and not normal capacity?

Wednesday is my LGR rifle night. I don't ever go but I recently finished an 11.5 and needed to test it and zero it. There were all kinds of guys there that clearly had no idea about CA gun laws. Plenty of cops were coming in and out. No one said a word or gave a flying frack. My heart swelled with pride. God Bless America.

In what ways were they non-compliant?

Years and years ago I was at the range with registered AR when a guy said he was an Albany cop and he was going to confiscate my rifle. I showed him the registration letter and he was not at all happy seeing it.

As an NRA RSO, I actively try to avoid shooting at public ranges at all. I'd say a good 20-30% of shooters are simply unsafe and break the four rules all of the time. Its no fun shooting around dumbasses who endanger your life as well as the lives of everyone around them. All of Commifornia's gun laws are illegal and Unconstitutional, I don't care if what anyone is shooting, "illegal" or "legal" as long as they aren't breaking the four rules. I haven't been bugged anywhere for shooting standard capacity magazines, AOW, featureless or anything else, probably because I have resting bitch face and people don't want any of it. ;-)

I have that face as well. I was told to smile when walking down the hallway at work as the young engineers felt intimidated. My reply, 'good'. Another time a female coworker talked with me and said 'you're not such an ahole after all '. I said I'll take that as compliment.
