    CCW "Extra mags" Question

I was wondering how/if you would carry extra mags when you CCW.

I would think if someone sees you're carrying mags, they would automatically assume you're carrying a weapon.

For me, six rounds is good BUT........

    Your inpute would be appreciated.

I think an extra mag, in a belt carrier, is prudent.

If you have a malfunction and drop the current mag on the ground while trying to clear it, you would have a Real Problem.

And over at THR, a member posted some detailed data on self-defense encounters/shootings - 75% of the small number of incidents involved 2 or more Bad Guys, and more than 50% of the defensive shots taken missed.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

They make IWB mag pouches for the purpose of carrying extra mags while concealed carrying, think that would take care of the how issue and not add someone seeing you carrying a magazine.

I carry a Safariland horizontal pouch that looks like a cell phone holder.

Many who tried them will agree with me that they are more uncomfortable than a gun in the waist band..

I NEVER carry without a spare magazine on my support side. While I've never had any problems with my carry guns and the shots in an average defensive gun fight is in the low single digits, having a contingency when I'm trying to save myself or a loved one is a GREAT thing. I've found quality OWB magazine carriers that are designed for CCW more than sufficient with a standard polo. I really prefer single magazine carriers since I can wear one single if I want to reduce bulk. For kydex, I'm really enjoying Cane and Derby gear (although their customer service leaves something to be desired), and Dale Fricke Holsters (he does make horizontal carriers). For leather, I really like Milt Sparks (although the wait time is looong) and TT Gunleather (here in CA and they do have a quick ship product line). What holster/clothing choices are you going with now?

Just put an extra mag in your pocket. That way it doesnt stand out on your side. Its really that simple. Just figure out what works for you and go with it.

Carry full size 1911 - during training I have been convinced that in a high stress - shoot NOW and MOVE situation you will squeeze off more rounds than you would expect....

plus many encounters are multiple bad guys - last sound I want to hear is my gun go "click"

I used to think "if I need more than 9 rounds, I'm in the wrong fight" - now I think "I plan to be the last guy standing, because it's always the wrong fight"

always have a spare mag on me either for extra fire power or for trouble shooting

i carry it weak side OTB leather vertical hoslter. it is less obvious than one might think since they ride rather high. just think of it like carrying a multitool in a nylon holster (but the mag rides much higher)

comfort wise, it is nice since it evens out the weight (not the same weight as a whole gun, but every bit helps)
