The general consensus around here and Sigforum is that SIG's QC has steadily declined through the years. There have been numerous discussions on the web about issues (perceived or real) about recent production SIG pistols, not just the P226 but other models as well (P250, P238 etc). I'm sure part of this is due to the current demand for SIG pistols (compared to demand back in the 90's), production quantities and some of the cost cutting measures they have taken. Also, the fact the internet is an outlet for vocalizing problems and opinions.
In the 22+ years of recreational shooting, i have owned 5 SIG's, 3 W. German, a hybrid German frame/American milled slide and a German ('91 P226, '92 P228, '93 P230, '08 P220R & '10 P225). I guess i'm one lucky SOB, since none of them has had any issues or failures. I've also have not had any problems with 2 Beretta 92's, G17 & G21, CZ-75, S&W 586 & 60, 2 Buckmarks and a SA Loaded 1911. I have expressed numerous times my preference for my W. German SIGs but would not hesitate to this day in purchasing another SIG, American or otherwise.
To the OP, take another look at the Sigs and only buy it if your happy with the sample your shown and take internet discussions with a grain of salt.Comment

I owned multiply Sig, and the two newer one are made in the US. The only problem I had was with my GSR 1911, it was an design flaw since I had the 1st Generation. I guess I was lucky with my two US made Sig since frame to slide fitting is great and with over 1000 rounds it still look brand new compare to the Germany made one.Comment

Well, I just received 15 P226's... All look great and have been flawless so far.
The Sig I carried at my last department? Best shooting gun I have ever held. Thing shot like a Twin Turbo Ford GT drives, and handled like a Cadillac rides. So far, my new one is steadily getting to that point."Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."~M.Twain~Comment

Yeah I have said nice things about Sigs P series. I have never had one not go bang, and I've said they feel better in the hand to me than any other gun. I've also said I like the SP2022, for the price.Do you ever have anything nice to say about Sigs? I'm sorry you had what you believe was a bad experience but come on man, bashing 100% of the time is uncalled for.
The reality of it is this...none of the manufacturers produce 100% perfect products 100% of the time. The rusted spring MK25 thread has me stumped but I don't care if it Ford vs Chevy, Maytag vs Whirlpool, S&W vs Glock....none of them produce a 100% efficiency rating. Should they,IMO yes but the reality is none of them do.
I'm not bashing 100% of the time. I did have a bad experience, and I'm not alone in that. This forum has a lot of biased people, that hype Sig and Glock quality beyond rational proportions. I don't think a dose of reality every now and then is uncalled for in the least.
Also no offense to you, because I know you have an impeccable reputation on this forum but: your opinion isn't any less biased, as you have a vested interest since you sell Sig's.
I'm not sure what all the pushback about what I've said is about. I find it a bit perplexing. There is no mystery here. Sig quality has gone sharply down hill, end of discussion. Many people (save the brand loyal fan-boy's, and die hard Sig fans) will not touch the new Sigs. This is represented in the resale value of newer Sigs, and the price that the older ones fetch.
Can you buy a newer Sig, and get a great gun? Sure. Lot's of people don't have that experience though.
You can argue with what I'm saying, or defame me in whatever way you wish. Out of the 30 or so newer Sigs I have shot, several had issues, including less than stellar accuracy.
All 5 of the W. German P226's, and P220's that I have shot cycled incredibly smooth, had perfect fitment, less trigger slop, and were noticeably more accurate than any newer Sig's I have spent time with, save for one exeter made p229 9mm (range gun), and an SP2022.
If I found a 'good' Sig someday, I would not rule out purchasing it.
Anyone saying that I have never said anything nice about Sig's either hasn't read all my posts, or is just trolling.

You have no idea how many problems MIM parts cause. You guys only see a fraction of the issues. 99% of the problems are taken care of before leaving assembly. Sig is working miracles.Originally posted by Paladin(Please skip the lame "two weeks" replies.)Originally posted by Ford8NIf I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in, I would have done it. Like others above, I have owned (and still own) several SIGs, the most recent two having come off the line in 2010, and the oldest an early 1990's P228.
This seems to be one of those topics that's almost as touchy as 9MM vs 45ACP, but I will give you my take:
Two of my 3 carry pistols are newer SIGs, a P229R DAK and a P220R Carry that I converted to DAK. I have had zero issues with either, and obviously, I'm willing to stake my life on them.
That said, the fit and finish, that quality you can just feel, is superior on an older 1994 P229 I own, and my pure German pedigree'd P228, superior to that.
I think taken in total, I have no problem trusting the quality of a newer SIG. But I would never order one in, and would only buy one I had held in my hands and inspected myself. I think SIG still makes excellent, reliable handguns, but I also think their QC is perhaps not quite as consistent as it once was.Last edited by davbog44; 04-16-2012, 4:34 AM.Comment
