Colt Python or Ruger Blackhawk .30 carbine?

I found 2 revolvers I am interested in for sale today.

The first one is a Blue Python with an 8" barrel. The story is the previous owner kept it at his cabin and only put 6 rounds through it. You have to look real close to see a ring on the cylinder and I can see no other signs of wear. The serial number is AL 90xx. The price is $1,000.00.

Revolver number two is a 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk chambered for .30 carbine. It also does not look used very much, however there is a small chip in the right grip and there is some blueing scraped off the bottom of the barrel where the cylinder pin has scraped it during removal. The serial number
is 45xx. The price is $575.00.

Can someone give me an approximate year of manufacture and an opinion as to whether the asking prices are reasonable?

The Colt sounds reasonable. Don't know much about the Ruger, but the 4 digit serial number is possibly from the 1960s. You might be able to look it up on Rugers website. Price doesn't sound out of line, as most revolvers are drawing higher prices these days.

If I had the money, I'd buy them.

Edit: according to the Ruger product history, the revolver is from 1968. In 1969 they started using a "50-" prefix on the Blackhawks.

Buy the Ruger and give me the number of the guy so I can buy the Colt.

I'd offer $500 for the Ruger and start reloading .30 Carbine.

The .30 is an amazing PITA.

It's cool and all, but kind of sucks at the same time.

You can't get the damn cases out of the cylinder.

Regulating POA and POI requires either a scope or a surfboard fin screwed to the top of the barrel. Factory sights are only suitable for anti-aircraft work.

It's really cool, throws a fireball the size of Oprah.

Banging the grip(alloy) on the bench to knock loose the cases will teach you all about refinishing alloy, so you've got that going for you... which is nice.

I'd make an offer on the Blackhawk, maybe around $500 as Napa suggests, but I already have a Python that I rarely shoot, and I probably wouldn't shoot one much that was that close to unfired.

The Python is like an investment. The Blackhawk is a shooter.

Pythons are hot right now -- $1,000 is a deal. The carbine is impressive, but I'd go for the Colt for better quality and long-term use.

Buy the colt,sell it here and buy 3 blackhawks.....the 30s are not that uncommon, Personally,Id jump on that python in a heartbeat for 1K.

+1 for the Python, I am not impressed with Blackhawks or any Ruger product for that matter.

Get the Ruger and give me the guy's #

I dunno. I'd get a brand new Blackhawk in 327Magnum for the 30carbine's money. Same size gun, the new one is actually better quality, stainless and with a safety, the 327 round is very similar in power without the sticky cases issue, and one more big, big difference:
