A buck a round for .44 Magnum? I feed my DE for less than $0.50 a round. (store bought, not reloaded)

Oversized and impractical? You damn betcha, just like the crude 60's muscle cars that gobble fuel and spew emissions but still bring obscene prices. It's not about practical, it's about "I want it 'cause it's cool".

I've been on the hunt for a DE XIX in .50 or .44 for a while now. I'm always a day late (a minute late sometimes!)...

Example, I had a Stock Watch on Gun Genie for the DE .44 CA. About a month ago, I got an e-mail saying they had 15 in stock. About 10 minutes later, I log-on to order...and they were sold out. 15 roster-compliant DE's sold in 10 minutes!!!

Lesson learned...stop whatever I'm doing and order right away!

you can load the .44 magnum with some nice hornady XTP hollowpoints and it would be just fine for either self defense or hunting.

I have 3 DE's...an older one, shown above, which I sent to Fords to have chromed as it was prone to rouging. I also just bought a 357, same frame, just a smaller hole in the front!! I must say, its a dream to shoot as the recoil is almost non existant, and it has had a trigger job.

Contrary to popular belief, a DE is very easy to shoot accuratly. The kick of a 44 mag DE is about half of a 629 revolver, as it take a far amount of gas to drive the system. The pistol has a two stage trigger, and a long sight plane, so of course, its good to go. While not a 1911 trigger wise, it is more like a RRA NM 2 stage after long enough use.

As to loads, if you use H110 you will get a lot of flame, boom, and recoil, but if you load accurate #9, your flash, boom, bam will fall off, but not your velocity. So if you want to go for show, use H110, if you want to decrease the "flinch factor" use #9.

The recoil can make you think twice about pulling the trigger, and the slide has a bad habit of skinning you thumb knuckle if you hold the gun properly, and alos taking off your left hand thumb nail with the slide hold, so you need to be careful. Keep your grip lower than usual and don't point that thumb straight out like you have practiced for years.

Its not just a show gun, its a great long range pistol and it can be used to shoot big things that might jump you in the dark...like Rosie Odonnel....

Without exaggerating, please tell us where we can get store bought .44 magnum rounds for less than .50 cents a piece. And if you know where to get the lowest price on a box of .50AE that would be great too.

I paid $15.60 for a box of 20 hornady .44 mags from cheaperthandirt - that's .78 cents a round. Sorry for the GROSS exaggeration.
I paid $34.00 for a box of 20 Magnum Research .50AE bullets from my local gun store. That's $1.70 a round.
I'd say my description was actually pretty accurate considering I bought a box of each.

You are sooo right about that. I almost had a hissy fit in Walmart because I couldnt refill my Walmart card over $1000. I didnt feel like driving 10 miles to my credit Union to deposit money, but had to anyways because the guy at the online store said I better hurry up and order because he only had 3 left and there was NOOOOOO telling when hed be able to get some more...especially at the price he was selling them for (almost $300 below retail value)

For .44M that's as close as it gets to $.50 at $25.66/50. There is one cheaper at $22.36/50, but it's out of stock.

You can get .50AE for just under $1 per round.

Unless you *have to* buy at a local store, you can get a good price online.

Thanks IVC I appreciate it, and don't mean to be argumentative - however,
it's my understanding that because the DE uses a gas impingement system, lead bullets foul the gas line, and you're only supposed to use FMJ or Hollow points etc. which are usually a bit more expensive.
But thanks for the info, I'll pick some up for my 629.
