    DESERT EAGLE 44 & 50AE POPULARITY SPIKE

So, I was sitting around trying to figure out what novelty gun would fit in my collection. At first I was thinking maybe an antique gun, but as I was watching the movie SNATCH, I changed my mind. Thats what Ill get..a DESERT EAGLE! Well, it appears my timing couldnt have been worse or better..I dont know which because all of a sudden despite the screwy CA gun roster and inflated prices, alot of stores cant seem to keep those things in the cases long enough or are back ordered for weeks regardless if its the newer XIX or a used one.Can someone elaborate on the sudden spike in interest for this gun??

    People realize its badassness.

Well that or there's a correlation between this and the spike in the number of Cialis prescriptions being filled.

Snatch is an AWESOME movie, by the way. Bullet Tooth Tony is great. So's the whole bit about the parking space.

Its an over kill caliber for self defense thats a grizzly gun
Any 45acp with modern plus p hollow points will do just as good
hell ide take a 45acp with a ported barrle before a 44 magnum for self defense a 44 would run right threw a human body way over kill

I don't think it's a sudden interest. Some people have nothing good to say about them, but if you put one up for sale on here or any other forum at a reasonable price, it'll get snatched up almost immediately.
They're totally impractical but also a huge rush to shoot and they turn heads at the range. And, they make a great camping bunk mate.
I just picked one up in brushed chrome with a .44 and a .50 barrel. It's my second DE. My first was a black .44 that I got in a trade with another calgunner.
Personally, I love them. They just cost so damned much to shoot.

I think it's always been a low volume gun, and since there are only 2 models on the list it reduces availability as well.Doesn't seem like a sudden thing. I also wouldn't call them impractical, they are very good target guns

Well, if you don't reload they're not very practical at $1+ per round. Plus, they're so big and heavy, they're hard to lug on a hike. That's all I meant by impractical. But yes, they are pretty accurate target pistols.

It's what the OP said; they're great novelty guns.

You're absolutely right. Saying they are practical isn't right but it's just that people knock them for everything. In fact they are very good at target shooting, which many guns are only useful for and many guns are only used for. Also, they are a kick to shoot, big boom, and a novelty on top of that

Practical? No. Fun? Oh yeah, in either .44 or .50AE. They are like nothing else and surprisingly accurate for such a big hunk of steel. Until you shoot/own one it's hard to understand the attraction.

wouldn't you expect accuracy from large heavy steel guns?

I have a 629 classic as well with a 6.5" barrel, and it kicks much, much harder than my DE. The semi-auto absorbs much of the recoil, and makes it much more pleasant to shoot. Although the 629 is obviously more reliable.

What I probably should have said is that I'm surprisingly accurate with the DE in either .44 or .50AE when you consider the size/weight of the gun and the fact that .50AE is a good size bullet with bite.

Just be sure it's POINT FIVE OH on the gun and not POINT FOUR FOUR.

I suppose as long as it doesn't say REPLICA along the slide you're good.

A Desert Eagle isn't a Deset Eagle unless it's stamped .50 and gold. Go big or go home.

                              You have one in gold?
