I can't complain about my P22 either. Funny how a statement like "the P22 is crap from what I have read." are usually taken seriously. If you don't own one, don't pass judgement based on "what you have read." Look at how many negative comments have been posted on the GSG 1911 .22. Yet they have many fans. The same can be said of the SIG Mosquito. Mine has yet to fail me. I haven't seen or held the SR 22, but if it is a Ruger, I would bet it is pretty well made. I will withhold my opinion on it until I have shot or owned one. I might buy one today!!

You are right chucksolo, I won't say that the Walther "is crap" because I have not owned one (I have shot one). But the basic engineering premise that the slide is constructed of Zamak means that I don't feel it will be as reliable as the aluminum slide on the Ruger. Small, light .22s are an engineering challenge because .22 ammo is fairly dirty and inconsistent and the slide needs to be light enough to reliably cycle, yet strong enough to not crack or fall apart.

I grew up watching James Bond and the Walther PPK was always an unusual, aspirational gun that not many average Americans shooters had ever seen or owned. That Walther has been absorbed by an Airsoft company seems to be a shame, that would rule one out for me. It is the same with the Colt and Browning .22 1911s, I believe that both are guns that are contracted out so the build quality is not going be the same as you would get from a Colt or Browning factory built gun.

I don't mean to thread jack, but there is a field for HSC number on the DROS entry screen or a drop menu for exemptions. I have never sent a DROS without one or the other populated. Not sure if you can. I guess nothing would stop an FFL from just entering the number you tell them, but I think very few would unless they knew you personally.

Do you have a reference supporting your statement?

          From DOJ:

What are the Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) requirements?
Prior to purchasing or acquiring a handgun, unless exempted, you must have a valid Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC). You must present your HSC to the firearms dealer at the time you begin a transaction to purchase/acquire a handgun.

$310 is a very good price for the SR22P. I bought mine at Turner's on sale for $319 and count myself lucky. The usual price is $349. Supply and demand; the guns fly off of the shelves and there has been a wait list since it came out.

            Really like mine!

SR22 is awesome. I have about 500 rounds with out a single malfunction. Great little pistol!

I have a P22 and its eaten everything I threw at it for 2-3 years or so and has been one of my more accurate pistols. Its been in the safe for the last 2.5-3 years because Ive found new loves (1911, 15-22, FNP, AR15, and now M&P) but Ive otherwise had no problems with it at all.

All this SR22 love seems like its because its the new kid on the block and everyone has to have one (Oh, and its a ruger - why all the ruger love for their new pistols but none for the mini's?). Just wait a little while and theres probably gonna be reports of problems begining - kinda like the Glock 4th gen teething issues.

SR22 > P22 - I just dont see it, at least not with my P22 experience - it all depends on what your using it for. Plinking - P22 is great at. Taking hiking/hunting/combat training and needing to put up with a bunch of abuse, being dropped, combat reloads with quick/hard slingshotting of the slide, whatever - may want the SR due to the sturdier slide metal.

Got mine at ON TARGET in Laguna (www.ontargetrange.com) I was in there picking up another PPT purchase and happened to ask when they were getting some in. As luck would have it, they just got one in that day and had not put it on display yet. They wanted $349 but they matched the Turner's price of $319 and threw in a free range pass. This could be my new favorite store! Thanks to Brent at ON TARGET. I get to pick up my new baby on Monday at 11:50am. Can't hardly wait!

Update - I traded my P22 in this morning on a Browning 1911 .22 A1. The Browning is a fantastic feeling little gun and is made of 100% T6 aircraft aluminum, both slide and frame. I believe the gun is made in the USA as the clerk who did the DROS put in country of origin as the USA. The thing I like the most about this little .22 1911 (it is 85% the size of a full size 1911), is that it breaks down EXACTLY like it's full size brother. No fixed, pinned in barrel, on this gun. It feels really natural in my hand. I paid just over $600.00 for it, but this is one .22 handgun I plan to keep. Can't wait for the 27th!!!

Congrats Chuck. That is a nice gun. I was well on my way to buying one they had at Oak Tree when I encountered a SR22 in Arizona. I weighed the choices in my mind, I already have an SA 1911-A1 Loaded the Ruger was half the cost. It was an easy choice for me but your Browning is a nicer gun.

                          Enjoy it!

Actually, I was on my way to buy an SR22 at my local Turner's in San Marcos when I stopped in at Duncan's Gun Works, also in San Marcos. They didn't have the SR22 bud did have 2 of the Browning's. I fell in love with the gun. Also, Duncan't let me trade in my P22, Turner's doesn't do that, they have you put your gun on consignment.
