P22 vs SR22

SR-22 is what im going with, 1, because its ruger and 2, because it functions better (from what i read) -
I bought the Walther P22, and I can honestly say that its the biggest pile of crap I have ever owned. Its completely inaccurate (10 inch groupings at 25 feet) The gun is difficult to take apart, poorly designed, the 3 magazine I have tend to bend .22 bullets out of their crimp.
Lets see what else, oh yeah, Jam city with bulk ammo. Lots of times the next bullet in the magazine will just get passed up by the slide, did I mention that its the single worst designed monstrosity I have ever had the opportunity to own?
The Walther p22 also has a dumb safety position, and the magazine release is the downward press type. Just all around I hate everything about this gun.
I fondled the SR22 and would definitely consider it. I ended up buying the GSG 1911 .22 simply because its the same dimensions as a fullsize 1911 and wanted my girlfriend to have matching guns ha ha haOriginally posted by FranklincollectorIt was administered with a toothpick and placed on a street taco.Comment

The Walthers are not "real" Walthers (they are contracted pieces) and the slides have a tendency to break because of the Zamak construction.
If you can find the Ruger anywhere, I feel it is a better gun, it also has far fewer feed problems. I just bought the SR22 for my daughter and I couldn't find one in California. I ended up in Scottsdale on a business trip and scored one out there. Great little gun.

I sold my first addition P22 for almost the same reason but mine was not as bad. Good luck trying to find a P22Ca, buy the SR22, a much better piece in my opinion.Comment

They are 100% Walther. The problem is Walther is 100% part of Umarex, who for decades was known more for blank guns and tear gas guns than real firearms. there definitely has been some degradation of the brand.
I'm surprised to hear of so much trouble with the P22. I've sold quite a few with nary a complaint.
I've got one in stock right now. I can only wish I'll be seeing SR-22's anytime soon...

I looked, as a dealer, for two years for a P22CA and finally gave up. I got my SR22 four days after it was announced.Comment

Good to know Greg. So the Walther PPQ that my FFL is selling a lot of, that is a Umarex as well? Yikes!

Go with the SR22 over the P22. P22 is crap from the reading I have done.

If the handle is too thin try a Hogue grip. It was a struggle to slip it on but once its in, its not moving anywhere. It feels good too.

Got mine at Turners in Orange. I think they still have some in their warehouse. I have a 22/45 and 10/22 but this little SR22 is definitely my new favorite!I like guns.

That's very surprising. I opened my shop in August last year and have sold a half dozen or so P22CA's. No problems getting them. Mostly from Davidsons. As for the SR22, I held it at SHOT, and Davidsons, the largest Ruger distributor in the country has yet to allocate me any. Where did you get yours? Was it at normal dealer or inflated?
As for the PPQ, I can't say I've looked at one, but I'm sure it's less "Umarex" than the P22....

I bought my SR22 at www.usautoweapons.com But they never have them on their website, but they did have six in stock at their Scottsdale Showroom. You can call them and if they have them, they will sell it to you and ship it to your California FFL.
Not cheap though at $349.00 but after scouring dozens of shops for over a month, I was happy to pay the premium because this was the perfect .22 that I wanted. It seems as if there is a need for a compact, easy to break down for cleaning .22 that doesn't cost a fortune, doesn't have feed problems and is reasonably accurate.
I have heard nothing but bad experiences about the Walther, that the SIG Mosquito has major feed issues. The Ruger seems to be the right gun at the right time. Now if they could only keep up with demand.
