Hello fellow calgunners i wanted to get sone input from a couple differant people,im looking into a new handgun but cant decide what to get. What i have in mind but cant seem to decide on is the glock 17 vs the 34. I currently own a g21 but want to practice more on my shooting at a cheaper price of ammo. Also wondering if anybdy has had any experiance or thoughts on the g17L and what is the advantages and disadvantages of the guns listed above. Thanks aand i appreciate all the help.

i have the 34 why not have a longer sight radius, more recoil mitigation and more easily manipulate controls, great for plinking home defense or what ever

The G34 will have a little less recoil as it is longer and heavier than the 17. The length should make it more accurate as well. I think they share the same frame

G34. The best looking Glock, and also fun to shoot.

If just for range then I'd get the 34 as well. The 17L is just so long, but the 34 is a nice balance IMO. Nothing wrong with the original 17 that started it all either. Can't really pick a bad one in this group.

G17L then G34 then G17, depending upon availability and price.

Wanted G34 Gen4, but it was $670-$710 via SSE in San Diego. Bought G17 Gen4.

My .02 says get the 34.

The longer sight radius will help with accuracy. The 17L is longer but the cost of the 17L (+ SSE) is more than a 34.

                That being said, a 17L & a 24 are on my list.

The glock 34 is a better option IMO.

You can't go wrong with any of the 3, they are all on the same frame anyway. The G34 would be better if you intend to play IDPA or USPSA, the G17L's are a little harder to find, but a plain G17 will work just as good. There is slightly less recoil on the G34/G17L because of the added barrel length.

I have a Glock 17 and i love it!...I picked it over the G19 because it just felt better in my hands it had more balance compared to the G19...It shoots very tight grouping and it doesn't have alot of recoil either...Me i'd pick the G17 because the G34 just seems a bit to long the G17 is long enough imo..Heck even the G19 has a long enough barrel but it just didn't fit good in my hand like the G17 did...

Nice collection Highlander. What grip wraps are those? Are they really "tacky" to clothing?

Does practice with a G34 and the associated improvement in technique translate well to other Glock models? In other words, if I make a lot of improvement to my shooting by taking a G34 to the range, will I be able to shoot my other Glocks better? Hopefully it's not a stupid question.

Since the G34 is considered a competition gun, it has a lighter trigger (4.5 lb) than the G17 (5.5 lb). But keep in mind replacing the connectors on Glocks for a lighter trigger is quite easy and cheap. So a minor difference there.

I just bought a new G17, and when my 30 days are up, a G34 WILL be DROS'D!
