that doesn't look as shiney as the loaded 9 's I've seen. Is it just the picture or is that stainless a bit darker?

I think it looks very cool, I also noticed that the finish was different on the slide compare to the other stainless steel slide p226 I used to own. It was lighter as well. He told me that fold slides are a too expensive to make and that's why they stopped making them. He told me that the reason why I have it it's because sig sauer had a contract with some country's military to make some folded slide p226s for them, and there were some extra ones, thats how they ended up in America.

I am in love with the gun, that's a collector's piece IMHO 13 more days!
anyways, would you guys tell me more about recently made p226 with folded slides?

And please correct me if I heard something wrong.
They stopped making the folded slide because of the introduction of the .40 S&W

Make sure you know what kind of maintenance is required for the folded slide sigs and at what round counts. Apparently Sig has already once stopped making parts for them once and some people bought a the the German for parts.

So it's a recently manufactured P226 with a mandrel folded slide? Interesting. Have you asked in the SIG forum? I thought they didn't do those any longer.

Everything Sammy said is correct. Read my second post here and I put down everything I found out about the German P226R. I don't ever seeing it being worth more than it is right now though.

              P226 German

Since I wrote that post, its seems that someone got a MIM hammer in theirs. Perhaps Sig ran out of the old hammers and threw in the MIM parts. There is only one account of this but I would check yours, not that it matters THAT much.

The machinary used to make the folded slides are still there apparently and due to the contract that they have I think they need to keep it operational in case they need to service the pistols under contract.

I wish I had the money to buy the machinery and licensing to start pumping out P226's like they were meant to be.

They had surplus of the carbon steel stamped slides from a government contract so they just mated it to the railed frames they are making now and shipped it here. If you look at the date code on the slide it says 2009 but the guns were sold here in 2011 so I'm guessing they sat in storage for a couple of years before they came up with the great idea of selling them to us American gun nuts.

You have to replace the breech block roll pin every 5k rounds. The roll pin is actually two, one inner and one outer. If you ever take this roll pin out it is recommended that you replace it with a new one. I was also told to replace the springs around the same time. Here is a maintenance parts kit from Top Gun Supply. P226 Parts Kit

In addition to the folded slide not being able to handle 40S&W, Sig doesn't recommend 9mm +P rounds in a folded slide. They say its ok in limited numbers but not to shoot a lot of them. I don't know what a lot equals.

high five! you and i got the original design of the p226, except the sights and the rail.

I knew it was carbon steel, I really like the finish and the weight. Would you say it's better than SS slide? Could you post some pics from the top? Also, what's up with the breech lock and what is MIM?

thanks for the info, I will make sure to keep count and replace everything after 5k.

It is what locates your casehead as it is being fed into the chamber

Without it, your round wouldn't be fed from the magazine, wouldn't be held by the extractor and couldn't be struck by the firing pin.

I would think the SS slide would be "better" cause it is stronger and corrosion resistant, but it is heavier and QC for Sig in Exeter hasn't really been impressing the sig fanboys so both has its pros and cons. I have seem SS slides where the part that interfaces with the frame rail looks like a saw. It was REALLY bad. I have also heard not so great things about the external extractor, but that might just be oldies who are PO'ed that Sig changed the design. The SS is suppose to make the P226 more front heavy so it must lessen the felt recoil... I haven't shot a SS p226 so I can't really comment.

Here is a pic of the top of a P225. Its the same.

The breech block holds the firing pin and extractor and it sits inside the folded slide. With the SS slide I believe it is "built in." Another advantage of the SS slide since more complex parts can be made if you CNC it.

                      Its bigger than you think.

I thought you had a older germen sig? It should be EXACTLY the same except for the rail and night sights.

The reason I got mine was because I figured it was my last chance to own one of the original design P226's.

nice, and no, I had the early 2000s model, come to think of it, only the frame was made in Germany, the slide was SS american.

                          thanks for clearing that up.

LOL you're cracking me up with the which one is better questions. I don't even know if the SS slide ones come with a "breech block." I believe its built in to the slide.

                              either way, I love sigs

I figure that the breech block is better for maintenance because you can swap it out your self. Not gonna lie, I think the original slide looks pretty sexy.
