P99 is a good gun. If you get the chance look at a PPQ. It's not on the roster, but I just got one, single shot exemption. I've ran about 500 rds through it and I love it more every time I shoot it. I can't say enough good about this pistol! It's basically a refined P99. It has a great trigger, and the reset is awesome! I wish they made it as a sub compact.

P99 is definitely a solid and reliable gun. I think you can find them on jetguns.com in the low to mid $500. I owned a 2nd Gen AS model in 9mm and never had a single failure.. and I've owned Glock, H&K, and Sigs that have had failures.

That said.. I noticed something about the design of the gun makes it flip from recoil more than it should. I don't understand why because the ergos on the gun is very nice. Not saying its crazy recoil, but I've noticed more in a P99 than say a G26.

I recently sold my P99, but before it actually sold I broke this little latch on the slide catch lever. The little bump catches on an empty mag to lock the slide back after the last shot. Admittedly, it was my dumb mistake that it broke, I was sharing a lane with a friend and his CZ mag fell next to my P99 mags; I mistook one of his CZ mags as a P99 and tried to put it in my P99. It wasn't even with that much force, but it broke the little nub. I noticed that part looks more fragile than my other guns. Something to take note of, but I'm sure you'd never run into this problem if you don't make the dumb mistake I made. It had zero affect in the gun's performance though, other than the slide didn't automatically lock back after the last shot.

Last thing you might put into consideration.. the P99 doesn't have too much aftermarket support. This might not be an issue if you're never going to do anything to your gun and it sounds like this will be your first handgun so it should probably best left alone (especially if its your only). Parts are hard to come by and mags are expensive (though no more than Sigs). If something breaks, you're stuck with using S&W's warranty (which is very good btw, but P99s are only officially warrantied for 1 year) or trying to get parts from a select few.

There were some .40's with S&W slides, but I don't think there were any 9mm's in that configuration. Both my P99's are german.

        Is my P99 100% German-made?

I had a P99 AS 9mm for 2 years and only had 500rds through it. i have small hands and did not like the long 11lbs pull compared to my 1911. to each his own it just wasnt for me.

I have both the First Gen AS and the 3rd Gen AS.

Both have German Proofmarks on slide barrel and frame.

I would think they are german made.

Did you mention where you are located? There is a QA and a compact on the shelf at one of the stores in San Luis Obispo. Saw them today.

This is all useful info and I have already been hit up with a couple of people willing to sell, although the are 40 cal......I omitted stating that I am looking for a 9mm! Also, based off of the info stated here, I am looking for the AS model. I am located in Orange County.

I think the PPS is essentially the compact PPQ, at least for the time being. It has the same trigger mechanism from what I've heard.

Like my SW99 a lot. With the exception of the unusual anti-stress dual-stage SA trigger for that 1st SA trigger pull, the DA/SA trigger feel rivals good standard hammer-fired DA/SA triggers found in SIGs or Berettas.

OP- looks like you just missed a WTS:

This gun is in North Cal........what would it end up costing me to get this in my hands down here in OC?

how does the trigger mechanism, trigger pull, etc of the PPQ compare to the P99?

PPQ is a refined version of the QA quick action trigger (glock-like semi-cocked). 5 1/2 lbs pull, just under 1/2" travel, under 1/8" reset.

Compare to the P99QA which has 8 1/2 lb pull but a slightly shorter travel of ~5/16", about 1/8" reset.

FWIW, the SA mode of the AS trigger on the P99 also has an insanely short reset of less than 1/8".

Shipping which can range between $50-$100 then the FFL transfer.

Good $200 bucks tacked on maybe?

I like it too, but not too fond of that ungly smith & wesson logo all all Walther pistols. A Walther should be a Walther, ja, ja,

True, its a good pistol, loved shooting it.

And your not alone, it is snappy compared to other 9mm's not sure why. But even then the .40 (and I dont mind recoil) was just annoying to shoot, almost like a G22 (which is more bearable, probably the bore axis). But some days I had good targets and some times not as much.
