    Walther p99

I shot one of these a few years back and remember that I loved it. This will be my first hand gun purchase and I can't find one for the life of me. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Is this a good first gun? I know they have different P99 models, can someone explain to me whats the difference and what would be a best option for my first?

So I take it no P99 love on this forum?

Whats the deal with this particular forum only going up to 2 pages? I can't figure out how to get further than page two???

my first handgun, excellent workmanship, very accurate, I have put well over 5k out the pipe with no failures that I can remember. I am particularly fond of the decocking feature . combat trigger is "meh" as most my shooting is target

Sometimes it takes a while to get to the threads.

The P99 is a good pistol. In my opinion its a SD/HD and/or police pistol. It has 3 variants from what I can remember. AS(anti stress, very neat and in my opinion the best one to get trigger wise) which in a sense is like a DA/SA pistol except in striker. Its been a while since I shot that model.

A QA (quick action) model, glock style if you will. Constant pull.

And a DAO model. Double action only.

IMO, AS trigger is where this pistol shines. Nothing wrong with the others, but myself and others found the QA and DAO most especially a little to heavy, but it is a combat pistol none the less.

I see a used one pop up here from time to time, usually a AS model.

Haha geez thanks budd! I dont know a ton on them like Glocks/Sigs and XD's but either way its appreciated.

I think the later generations had a more standard rail for lights, I know the early ones were adopted but like early HK's you were stuck with only certain lights or OEM.

The P99 is a fantastic handgun. I have a 1st generation Titanium P99 myself. It's never had a failure and I've shot all different brands of 9mm through it.

I'd recommend WaltherForums.com if you want more info on the P99.

The P99 is a great first gun! I bought a QA model P99 for my first handgun and I loved it so much I bought another one with the AS trigger; I'd get an AS model to start with if I were to do it all over again.

Walthers don't get nearly enough love and most people seem to not know that Walther even exists. None of the gun stores in my area have any on hand for example.

Can't go wrong though, it's such an awesome pistol. Definitely get an AS one though...

I can describe Walther P99 pistols in one simple word: Underrated.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I owned a first gen model and liked it, but the trigger was pretty gritty. I ended up selling it. Last year I bought the latest generation AS model and love it. The da trigger feels lighter and much smoother than my first Gen. Interestingly though, I think the first gen guns were more appealing to my eye. I like the look of the old trigger guard and short mag release.

I absolutely love these guns, and wished I never sold the gen 1 now haha. Oh well. I shoot the heck out of my AS.

I have an AS and QA. The AS has a much better trigger than the QA. I have 10000+ rounds through the AS, and have used it in 3gun many times. Accuracy is very good, and the reset on the trigger is excellent for a stock trigger. Double taps are easy for me, though I've read others complaining about muzzle flip. The QA stays in the safe, waste of money.

I always wanted a Walther P99 1st gen 9mm AS. They are hard as heck to find as most people dont sell them. Those who have them only have great things to say about them.
If i ever see one on the board and have the money, i'll get one. Until then, im a big fan of glocks, sig's, and 1911's...and a few more obscure/uncommon guns like the steyr m pistols and such which are kinda like the P99.

Like others said, P99's pop up on the marketplace from time to time. The ones i usually see on this board in socal are .40 s&w variants. I've seen a few posts about .40 P99's Kabooming so i personally dont want to go that route. (which is funny cause my favorite pistol is my glock 31 in .357 sig which essentially is a higher pressure cased down 9mm in a .40 case) The 2nd and 3rd gen are supposed to have improved the trigger, but i like the trigger guard on the 1st gen better.... not to mention its fully made in germany, where as the slides of the recent generations are made by s&w.

                          Cheers

Definately hold and scrutinize the trigger before you buy this handgun. I had a first Gen Anti-Stress and the trigger was horrible...........could barely shoot decent groups because the break pressure was so high and gritty.

The SW99 was my first Auto and it was great. I liked the DA/SA type action, the decocker was a good feature, and the grip/feel was possibly the best I have felt to date (at least for polymer autos). Mine did not shoot all that accurately and the site were less than ideal for me. The trigger was a little "gritty" but that may have smoothed out over time. I only sold it because I wanted something new and metal, so I bought a Sig. I always keep my eyes open for another one, maybe a compact version. Smith and Wesson stopped making theirs, but Walther still has them available.

                              Good gun, good value.
