If it was fully treated with Frog Lube it would not rust. The water would just bead up. Sales rep for FL keeps his 30 year old Colt 1911 submerged in water for days. No rust anywhere.Comment

SS does rust and all the little parts, screws, springs, etc are not stainless. I sure hope you finished stripping it down. Also, how did you dry out and lube the pplunger assembly afterwards?NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Stick it in a bucket of salty mud for a week and see what happens - I would have used a different firearm for that test, but then again I don't have $$ growing out off my ears anymoresigpicComment

Stainless does not rust in the usual sense. When it does corrode, and it certainly can and will with neglect, it won't get deeply into the metal like carbon steel, but it's still a a problem.
And as CSACANNONER notes, not all the small parts inside are going to be stainless. Those are going to need attention after this particular torture test, or replacement.
FWIW, I knew a guy at one time who would clean his S&W 659 periodically by stripping it and running the large, all stainless, components through the dishwasher.

I deep clean guns with an ultrasonic cleaner with water/simple green mixture. Just gotta be sure to dry them, and spray them down with wd40/clp to displace the water afterwards.Stainless does not rust in the usual sense. Remember that regular Simple Green will cause corrosion in aluminum. They have a new formula for use on aluminum called "Extreme Simple Green"Frank
