    A two part Sig question...

    1. What are the most reliable magazines for the Sig P220? I need to be able to stake my life on the reliability of the equipment.

    2. Where is the best place to purchase reliable magazines at the best price? I need about 10 magazines and am hoping to find mags for less than the $50/each that Sig lists them for... ($500 in magazines seems frightening)

Are you LEO? Both the factory magazines as well as the Mecgars are fantastic.

I've only ever run factory stainless Sig magazines in my 220. I've never had a problem with all sorts of ammo, meticulously clean or scary dirty, all worked great.

I haven't used a Mec Gar in my 220, but they work awesome in my 226 9mm, so I'd guess they're just as good or better than the factory Sig magazines. You'd have to guess that if Sig endorses the Mec Gar 20 rounders in their Tac Ops line, they have to be worth something.

As for part two of the question, I haven't found anywhere that sells 220 magazines for cheap. If you go with Pro Mag, they're cheaper, substantially if I remember right. Cabela's has 3 packs of factory Sig mags in either 8 or 10 round variety for something like $100 for the three.

MecGar *ARE* the factory magazines for Sig.
        And Beretta.
        And Browning.
        And CZ.
        Etc, etc.

None of those companies, and a heck of a lot more, make their own magazines. MecGar does.

If MecGar makes a mag for it, its a pretty safe bet its going to work great.

While Mec-Gar does make factory magazines for Sigs, I've never seen aftermarket Mec-Gar (only) marked magazines for a Sig 220.

I've had very good luck with the Act-Mag Magazines (mine are marked Novak) which I bought for ~$20. I've found them as reliable as the factory Mec-Gar magazines and easier to load.

You should check CDNN or Cope Distributing. Cope has flat rate shipping, I bought 25 at a time...yup, that's $500 in mags

Thanks for the posts. I've just looked at MecGar's website and they don't list the P220 as one of the Sigs that they make magazines for. As for the question regarding whether or not I'm a LEO, I am. Does that change where I can obtain magazines from? If there is some super-secret magazine store for LEOs, please pass me the address....

Oh, and just a quick note regarding Cabelas:

The 3 pack of P220 mags is $114.99, but is currently back ordered.

Get yourself a C&R, even if you don't intend to use it, and take advantage of the discounts you can get. It will pay for itself quickly.

I was under the impression that LEOs can get discounts on magazines for their carry guns if they purchase them through the department?

NEVER consider PROMAG if your life or anyone you care about depends on it..

I would be willing to bet you even the guys who make PROMAG magazines wouldnt' use their product if their lives were at stake..

pro mags are for range time practice sessions only.

also, if you have facebook, sometimes sig's FB feed will put out a promo for mag sales...
