[QUOTE=efnick;7493070]EFnick,You said you didn't want high end.
High end to me is Les Baer, SV Infinity, Ed Brown, Nighthawk custom, JV Dynamics, any custom builder, etc.
You know.. $2500-3000 1911.
You can have a Trojan for $1000.
A $1000 dollar pistol is not high end.
What is your specific price range then? If you are saying $0-500 then ya, Rock Island.
At the end of the day, a 1911 is want for you, and not a need, so technically if patient you could save up.
If I was you I would get a used Springfield Loaded for 675-800 or so.
You also have not mentioned anything about caliber.[/QUOTE
-thats the dumbest thing ive heard all day, and i just worked a ten hour shift in retail.
That is signature worthy. I worked retail for 1.5 decades, and you are dead on. I laughed when I read that.
I also have the 1911 bug. You can find a low end Springfield in the mid 500's, new or used on Gun Broker. I would rather get a low end product of a high quality manufacturer, then a high end product of a lower quality manufacturer. That is just me. Good luck, I know how you feel.Best regards,

If you decide you want more than an entry level 1911, I can also highly recommend the STI Trojan as a very good value at the lower end of middle priced 1911s. I was recently able to wring one out for 2 days and ~600 rounds and was very impressed...too bad they aren't on the roster...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

I can respect that. It just depends on who you talk to.
You can find great deals on used handguns on other forums like BrianEnos.com
People let of of "out of reach" $1000 pistols for 600-700 all the time. Same thing in our classifieds. I'd rather have a used mid range gun for 600-700 than a brand new entry level gun for 500. We are talking about wants vs. needs. Instead of just jumping on the first thing that pops up, it can be good to be patient.Comment

This is the one I like what you guys think?Comment

Only thing is its somewhat hard to get a trojan, or any STI in CA very easily, seems a lot of venders wont ship them to CA still. Most the ones Ive seen are either A) Beat to death retired race guns, or B) super expensive safe queens.I can respect that. It just depends on who you talk to.

Did you just recommend an STI Trojan? You must be an idiot!!!! No one could possibly EVARRR get their hands on one of those. /sarcasmIf you decide you want more than an entry level 1911, I can also highly recommend the STI Trojan as a very good value at the lower end of middle priced 1911s. To the OP: You can also check out the STI Spartan. They are* 630 new and you have to single shot them, but you can find them used for wayyyy cheaper. Same cast frame as a Rock Island, forged slide, STI firing controls, (even though the grip and thumb safeties are MIM). Has front serrations, adjustable rear, and Fiber front. STI has great customer service, just like Rock Island.
You can't really go wrong with either, but seriously, SCAN THE CLASSIFIEDS. You can come up on nice guns for maybe 100 bucks more than your budget. Don't eat out and party for month.Last edited by JaeOne3345; 11-13-2011, 9:05 PM.Comment

Chris, I still think if your looking for a defensive gun, stick with some of the newer tuperware wonder guns.
I love 1911's but *personally* I would not keep one for a HD/SD gun.

Brazos Custom will. And private parties will if you educate them. That's how I got my Edge into California. Get a cheap $50 dollar 7 inch Sarco barrel, and extra long grip screws from any hardware fastener store that prevent a magazine of any kind from being inserted into the gun. Find a FFL that isn't scared, and do it!Comment

I own a ruger p95 and a hi point 9mm already. Remember we were talking about which one to purchase. Now I'm looking for a 1911 :-) (I have to get them asap because the wife is in texas) Thats why I've been on a spending frenzy. So when she comes back I can just slowly introduce them to her.Comment
