    AR Pistols.. practical?

Are AR pistols practical? Or are they just kind of for the cool factor? Thinking about getting maybe a LWRC PSD.

My LWRC AR rifle I shoot has a tiny bit of recoil when shoulder fired, so I'm wondering if an AR pistol will be fun or not so fun to shoot. The whole concept of nothing but your two hands supporting the recoil sounds awkward.

With shorter barrels will the recoil be more or less?

Are muzzle devices like compensators and muzzle brakes legal on an AR pistol?

    I don't think anyone has one because it's practical. It's a toy.

    A toy I want.

there's even less recoil on a pistol. And many people still shoulder them. They just tuck the buffer tube into their shoulder.

Until I can use them for the pistol games, they are just toys to me .

AR/AK pistols are complete novelty. They cost as much as a full size rifle, and between the short sight radius, all the CA pistol joy (BB, 10rd mag) there is little point to them as a usefulness. I hold them in a similar category as a FiveSeven in Ca, if I could have a DM standard magazine I'd get one in a heartbeat, the low cap mag is a real kill joy.

If you get a red dot sight, your sight radius doesn't matter.

On the other hand, many AR pistols have a sight radius that is as long or longer than an M4 carbine and that's a lot longer than most pistols out there.

I wonder if people would use them for home defense. I read some talk here that 9mm/.40/.45 isn't the best to 'put someone down' so maybe they want to go with 5.56, 7.62x39, maybe even .308 in a shorter, legal package?

I wouldn't call them practical in CA. Maybe in a free state. That doesn't stop me from having two. It's as close to the entry weapons I used to be able to play with and as close to an SBR as I can have in the People's Republik.

Recoil isn't an issue. Neither is recoil management.

Muzzle brakes, compensators and so forth are legal since an AR pistol doesn't have a detachable magazine.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

They sure are cool looking, but like others have said the 10 round magazine limit is a kill joy.

                          There's a distinction here:

Are AR Pistols practical? Yes, for urban applications. The fact that AR pistols have a buffer tube make them more practical than AK pistols, which you just hold up in the air.

Are AR Pistols practical in California? No, because of the bb and 10 round mag they're just a luxury item.

No, not very practical. But they sure are a lot of fun!
