My point was that manufacturing methods for most have improved as technology and the machines used to make them have improved and yet the basic design has stuck around despite improvements in technology. There is no flaw in that logic sport. This is stupid, because I was obviously joking.
But, if you make the argument that the 1911 has been around since 1911 because the design is so good (which was why I posted what I posted, jokingly, in response), then my samurai sword argument still holds up and you've completely proven that in your post. Current 1911's are not all manufactured the same way or with the same materials as the original, just like what you said about swords. However, the excellent design has withstood the test of time. It's a freakin' perfect example
And no it is not obvious you were joking. Lots of people, including lots of Calguns members, have feudal Japanese swords. I sold a few of them those swords back in the day. So if it was a joke...it wasn't a funny one or one that made any sense.
So your joke, and your argument both failed.
And don't call your fellow Calgunners stupid. Not only is not nice, it will get ya banned...again.Last edited by tacticalcity; 10-14-2011, 7:10 PM.Comment

A lot of 1911s are American made, Kimber included. No shortage of choices their. Springfield's not one of them though.
1911 guys are not just fanboy's about the model but many if not most tend to be fanboys of a certain brand or specific brands. So it is as much of a loaded question, as much as your first one was.
Notice that JeremyS is already trying to static with me because he thinks 1911s suck and I argued they are a great design and the core design has lasted for 100 years because the design at its core is a good one?
Notice how many people are making crappy remarks about your liking Glocks?
Now you can expect somebody to come along and start static because I like my Kimber and they are diehard fans of brand X.
Trouble makers one and all.

Yes, I completely agree with your point. It applies to both 1911's and to samurai swords. That's why what I said was a perfectly good example. You said it wasn't, and here you are yet again proving my original point -- which, to be perfectly clear, was that the 1911 isn't better than a Glock just because it has been around for 100 years and therefore has withstood the test of time, just like the Samurai sword design has been around forever, is still being made to this day with modern technology, but isn't the preferred method of self defense.
1) never been banned from this or any forum. Doubt I will be.Originally posted by tacticalcityAnd don't call your fellow Calgunners stupid. Not only is not nice, it will get ya banned...again.
2) I didn't call anyone stupid. I quoted your history lesson "argument" (which was a lot more like agreeing with what I said) at my sword comment and said it was stupid. Actually, that's not even accurate. I meant the fact that I was even posting in response to your argument was stupid. I felt stupid for getting roped into something so ridiculous, and prefaced my comments by saying how stupid I felt to even respond . I'm stupid, not you. This post makes me even stupider for not just letting it drop.Comment

IMHO, the 1911 that I've found to be rock solid as Glocks are is the Springfield TRP...that things a beast though...with that said, I carry a Colt, I don't even own a Glock technically anymoreGood saddles ain't cheap...and cheap saddles ain't good

Unless you have an experience 1911 smith do the installation and fitting of said parts.INow this is when somebody comes along and argues with me. Screw them. Don't listen to them. If you want Glock reliability out of your 1911...don't go adding a boat load of aftermarket parts to it (beyond grips, sights, magwells, and stuff that won't impact functionality - and you would be surpised at what will impact funcationality). Don't let that scare you off. If you buy the gun the way you want it, it is completly a non-issue.
I do agree that you should try and buy it with the features you want as it's much cheaper then having a smith add them all on later.Comment

I'm going to bring back this zombie thread. I have first hand accounts I shot better with a 1911! Okay I was at the 20 yard line, shooting at bowling pins. 17 shots with my Glock 34, zero hits! With a 1911 (i'll keep the make out of it since it's not about that) 8 shots, hit the bowling pin 2 times! I don't know what to say guys, I think I may let my Glock 34 go when I get back from training. And possible get a Springfield or Colt 1911, I was looking at Les baer's and there price was $1890, how much are Springfields TRP it has a bull barrel right?Comment
