How about a 5/8" thick, all-titanium .45 ACP or 9mm? Check this out.

Heizer Defense has intro’d its first new product, a derringer-like hammerless pocket pistol they call “the world’s smallest and lightest .45 ACP conceal carry pistol on the market today.” Heizer’s original business is aerospace parts which appears to have influenced its use of materials for the new gun. This ain’t no plastic fantastic – the DOUBLETAP is made of titanium. Depressing the thumb latch releases the tilt-forward over/under ported barrels and ejects spent cartridges, shotgun-style. The unique design also accommodates two more cartridges held in the grip for reloads. Just in case you plan on carrying it to infinity and beyond, Heizer wants no mistake made about their manufacturing location. It’s stamped right there on the side: ST. LOUIS MO, USA, EARTH. Our wrists ache just thinking about it, but watch this space for a review just as soon as we can get our grubby little hands on one.

I assumed it did one then the other, just like my over/under shotgun (with single trigger) or any of the 2-barrel derringers on the market. There are multiple ways to make that happen -- either two firing pins and a selector that switches back and forth every time the trigger is pulled, or a firing pin that rotates every time the trigger is pulled (more common with rimfire derringers and pepperboxes).

BUT... I'd bet good money that it shoots each barrel separately; one per trigger pull.

Basically, it's the first double-action derringer and the first hammerless derringer that I've ever seen. And they sure kept it thin as heck!

I wonder if you'll be able to buy additional barrels so you can swap calibers, just like Cobra and Bond Arms and the other [traditional] derringer guys let you do.

I don't really think I would carry this for self defense -- only 2 rounds is kind of scary -- but it's sure cool.

with two shots that can be taken without anything other than trigger pulls, I see no way this would make it on the roster. No clue how it could be single shotted either...

Cool design, I like it more as a collectable. Website doesnt list price yet , but i love this line taken from website's main page "Only DOUBLETAP delivers, not once, but twice over! That’s LIFE ASSURANCE!", sorry Heizer I love the pistol though.

There are plenty of revolvers (in fact, basically all of the DAO and DA/SA ones) on the roster that will fire 5+ shots without anything other than a trigger pull. A safety isn't a requirement and things like loaded chamber indicators and magazine disconnects only apply to semi-autos. As long as this could pass the "drop test" then I would think it's at least capable of being on the roster if the company wanted to pay for that priviledge. Heck, plenty of semi-autos without a safety or any other sort of "step" required other than trigger pulls to put 10 rounds down range, and they're on the roster.

Yeah, SSE would be rough. You'd have to create an entirely new, single barrel for it that was long enough to meet the exemption requirements and still worked on the pivot and locking mechanism and whatnot.

Didn't realize that LCI was semiauto only. I guess drop test should be possible.
