Sorry in my original post I put "AO" and I meant to put "XO". I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Putting a VFG on a AR style pistol is legal. BUT it also becomes an AOW and you must pay the tax.

What you might have seen was a Franklin Armory AO-26. They are not pistols but Title 1 firearms. Do a search for them.
