You need to decide on a caliber and go from there.
I have comp, full, mid and compact in 9mm,40, and 45.
Like you've seen gen 3 have finger grooves, so people like them some don't.
You can always have they recontoured to your likeing.
    Happy Shooting.

    By the way isn't 45acp considered 11.25mm?

Thanks for the info and links. They answered every question I had about glocks. Since I have a .40 now I will stick to either a 22, 23, 27 or possibly 35. I'm not sure about which generation I will end up going yet, bit thanks again for the information guys.

Glocks also have roughly half the number of moving parts than most others.

1911's specifically, but I think the Glocks have only 32-34 moving parts, far less than other semi-auto pistols

I'm pretty sure the 1911 has about the same.
The 1911 is a remarkably simple machine.

1911 has only 5 parts in the slide (internal extractor), and only two of those 5 are "moving" if you don't include the slide itself.
Glock has more than that.... there's 3 just in the safety.

I'm too lazy to check, but it might have been a Sig, or Smith, Ruger, or . . . that had something like 80 parts. My recollection is that the Glocks have 26 (moving) parts, one of my reasons for choosing one. I apologize for any misinformation . . .

SA/DA models with a decocker like the 92FS have quite a bit more going on both in the slide and the trigger group.

glock only has like 30 parts TOTAL like the whole thing, is only 30 some odd parts, I am too lazy to go get my Glock out and look at the manual, if I wasn't on duty tomorrow I would.

Also the only difference in in the three glocks in .40 is size. big, medium and small.(there might be some other random ones out there for competition). The 22 is the full sized, the 23 is the medium and the 27 is the compact. Personally I shoot a 19(medium size, but in 9 mm), because I wanted a full sized gun that was also reasonable concealable if only at certain times of the year(I'm not the biggest guy around). Also the big one(in your case the 22) just never feels right in my hand, don't ask me why, but it just doesn't, I spent a long time trying them both out. The baby one, its useful, but if your not going to be trying to conceal it, I don't think you should look at, its a great gun, but unless you have small hands(or a magazine extension) you can't get your whole hand on it.
My suggestion is just go to the gun store and hold them all, then go shoot them all at a range and decide what you like, there are only really 3 options
and Glock pretty much comes in every color as long as its black these days(new, there are some OD green's still floating around new but few, to the best of my knowledge, unless something has changed this summer while I have been out)

as far as gen 1-4. Get a gen 3, gen 4 is not on California's 'safe' list so you would have to jump through hoops to get it(doable but annoying). So a new glock would have to be a Gen 3 unless your buying used which could be a gen 1 or 2, which you can tell on the medium and full sized because gen 3 has a rail for a light or such item.

                        the end.

I went and looked, 34 total parts in a glock
