My glock 19 options...

I got his point I just wanted to call him on it to see if maybe he had a down side up side comparison and would maybe shift my mind.I think you're thinking way too hard and missing his point. True, glock 19 are the most popular (by sales) glocks out there. But I would surmise it's because of it's versatility for the "on the fence" would be owner. Buyer doesn't quite know what the main purpose of the gun is. ie CCW, daily carry, range gun, etc so it's a safe bet to get a glock 19 which fits in the middle of the G34, G17, and G26. I have a G34 and G36. I bought the G19 mainly for it's versatility...a happy medium. Had I known it was strictly used for range or CCW...I would have gone with another glock.
It's like buying a hybrid bike. It's not a tough as a mountain bike nor is it faster, more smooth ride than a road bike.
And I know the use for this gun. HD droor/range gun. Figured I'd go with the slightly more compact gun.
I have shot the 17 and the 19 literally one after another and couldn't even tell I was shooting a different gun. My groups on both guns were horrid to say the least. So I figured since were stuck with 10 rounds... And I don't even notice the difference in weight or grip I might as well just get the smaller size. Only reason I chose the 19. If I could carry open and could hold 18 I would have gotten the 17.
What's the price OTD do you know? And where are they located over head of them but never seen their shop. Obviously in OC but like irvine/newport area.. Westminster/anihime area fountain valley/Santa Anna area...?Comment

The 4th generation does add some great features, most notable the different grip sizes, greatly improved mag release, a third magazine and what I personally think is their best grip texture to date. I'm not sure how much of a $ premium I'd place on it though (the 3rd and 4th generation prices are the same for LEOs, firefighters and GSSF members).
The third generation is a great gun and is in no way outdated. There are lots of people who prefer the third generation especially since it is even less likely to be buggy than the 4th.
I would always suggest night sights, they are cool and practical. I wouldn't pay more than $57 more for a gun with night sights as that is what Glock charges to install them if you send them your slide (including return shipping). I know a lot of the big distributors will install them for you for the same price. Especially a used one since night sights don't last much more than 10 years.
Look around, consider your budget, and know that you really can't go wrong (just don't buy something used where the previous owner "improved" it by tampering with the internals).
GSSF used to be a great way to quickly buy a Glock at a $150-200 savings but the program has changed a lot recently due to abuse, you now must be a member for over a year to get a purchase card and they have raised the price so a G19 is now $425, $27 more than LEOs and the previous price.
Also look at what qualifies for LEO pricing on Glocks, they are FAR more generous than the other companies, LEO pricing is offered for:
LEOs and retired LEOs
EMT's, firefighters, volunteer firefighters and paramedics
Military personnel and reservists (including retired)
Corrections officers including parole and probation
State licensed security companies and state licensed armed security guards
Court judges, district attorneys and deputy district attorneys
There is also a fairly substantiated rumor that criminal justice college majors quality as well (although I'd imagine most of them aren't 21 yet).Comment

CK 32,
It's OC Armory

Owner is Mike.
They have their own "single shot" kit. They have kits for the glocks and 1911. Cost is $125 for the kit + DROS.
They can either accept a gun with the single shot kit or they can put the kit on the gun you order.
Again, good luckComment

Wait so you add $125 on top of $599?!?!? Then DROS fees????CK 32,

That's insane! Rifle gear has a place that ships them to rifle gear for $599 single shotted no tax. Just pay DROS.Comment

No. I didn't say that. The Gen 4 glocks are $599. Not sure if that's OTD. Again, they didn't have the Gen4G17 so I didn't pursue it.
I know the kit and DROS totals $125 if I wanted to buy the STI rangemaster.
Again, call them and ask.Comment

Its too big to CCW everyday, well especially when you have a G26 option. (I'm sure there are people who do it, but why when there are better choices, even from Glock?) If you want to holster it instead, or keep it by your bedside, then you're giving up sight radius compared to the G17 for no good reason.
I think people buy it thinking that they can dual purpose the gun, when in fact it is less suited to either roles than the G26 & G17 that Glock already has available. My opinion
I look at handguns now as filling a specific role. If you think about it that way, what role is the G19 better at than even other 9mm Glock models? There are none. In every role you can come up with, Glock has a superior 9mm model suited for it when compared to the G19. There is no specific role where the G19 is the best 9mm Glock pistol for the job; its always 2nd place compared to another 9mm Glock model.
Like I said before, if you just like the G19 or it fits your hands best, then cool, go get it. If you have a specific role you want to fill with your G19 though, I'd suggest thinking about whether a G26, G17, or even G34 could better fill it cause you'll probably realize that the G19 isn't the best choice.Last edited by stix213; 07-22-2011, 4:18 PM.Comment

Idk my house has a 25 yard shot max. So longer sight radius doesn't really bother I feel people really look into that too much. Maybe shooting 50+ will I think it SERIOUSLY comes into play on hitting the target or not. Im not sayin it doesn't improve accuracy but you don't need to hit a 1 inch group at 25 yards in a HD. And it's not like the 19 can't... Yes shot placement matters but come on be serious a hit is a hit. A miss is a miss. Also I learn toasted the size because in my sock droor it leaves me more room to store the glock and not have it sticking out or not having room for it. And the g26 is too small for me and I have seen tons of guys CCW a 17. Not the best option but it can be done. So the 19 can be done.
I'm not here to fight you for bragging right just in for a debate because this is an interesting topic and if other users have these questions I'd like them to see debates to help them out with their questions too. So don't take this personal I'm just voicing why I feel it's good to fit my and others needs for a hd range gun maybe to CCW but doubt it.
I love the 17 don't get me wrong I was dead set on it for a year or 2 but I have now leaned to the 19 for what I need and am going to use it for. If I could use the 17+1 mag and could open carry I would defiantly go for the 17 any day of the week. The 26 eh I don't like how the pinky has to hang off... Sorry you can conceal it but does you no good if you can't shoot it.Comment

And how don't you know the 17 was over sized from the beginning and the 19 is the perfect size. Maybe the 19 is all of the best of the 2.Comment

Yes and no... With adrenaline going a hit is not a hit, unless it's a vital hit. You can empty your gun into an attacker, and if you don't hit the right spot, they may still kill you. Add drugs into the mix, and it just gets worse. People with broken arms on PCP will just use their arm like a whip when trying to hit you.
Shot placement is ALWAYS critical, and since you're accountable for EVERY round that leaves your firearm, you better make sure you're putting rounds on target.
Now, what if an attacker only presents a small target because they're hiding or have a hostage? Would you rather have a longer sight radius?
You're correct that in most shootings the type of firearm is negligible, however I like to train for the not so common scenarios too. Also having kids in the house makes me more conscious of where my rounds are going. I better be shooting a small group at 25 yards or I might be more of a danger to my family than the intruder.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

Yea see this argument is way bias... When I mean hit is a hit I mean chest stomach mid section. I said I don't need to be hitting 1" groups at 25 yards. You just changed my words to 15" groups at 100 yards. And it's not like the 19 isn't capable of hitting a target because it has what 2 inches less sight radius...? It's not going to make that big a sufferance at -25 yards. I was a first time shooting and put all torso shots with the g19 with a 3" group. So your arguement was just an outrageous exaduration of shot placement. I agree wiu what you said about everything. But again I said 1" groups not 15.. So your comparing apples to oranges with that.
And if your going to take that shot at a head with your wife or kids in his arms then go ahead and do it. I will not take a shot until he gives me a better shot I'm not going to chance that and accidentally kill my own family member by a bad choice. You may be able to do it I may be able to do it but that's too much of a risk to me. I'd rather take the chance of him sliding that knife or letting them go and run off then me jump the gun and miss with either gun. And it's not like the 19 shoots like a tommy gun and the 17 shoots like a precision rifle. Again I agree but your taking it way out of context and making it seem like that much of a difference makes it unable to hit groups and with that radius it is impossible to hit center mass ever because it's not as long as the 17. I bet with the same amount of training on the 19 you would put down the same amount of groups as the 17 until you got out past 50 or 60 yards.Comment
