9mm Target Gun HELP

Alright so now that I've had my Kimber for a while, I've realized how much more I enjoy the feel of a 1911 versus the feel of pretty much any other gun. Now I'm looking to move into the realm of 9mm 1911's and was just wondering what my best choices are in the $1,000 or less range. Are any Kimber 9mm's CA legal? I looked at the DOJ roster and it appears their Target II approval may have expired .

Let me know what I should look at generally and any experiences, good or bad, that you've had with your 9mm 1911's.

And also, I'm really looking for a match grade barrel type gun with some goodies on it so not too many plain jane suggestions please

You can always do a 9mm conversion on a .38 super as well.

Not really looking to do any conversions if possible. I'd much rather buy a new gun than start a project haha.

The Loaded models can be a little rough. If you want a competition gun, then you are going to add things to a Loaded like a match barrel, lighter main spring, and a few other things.

My .45 Loaded is nice, but I expected a little more refinement for a gun that lists around $1000.

I have 2 CZ SP-01s and that filled the void.....for awhile.

now looking into an STI Spartan for $600, an STI Trojan for $999, or an STI Rangemaster with the awesome looking full dustcover.

From what I've gathered in the last 2 days of researching, the Spartan frame and slide are made by Armscor to cut down cost while the trigger, internals, and reputation are STI's.

The Springfield and Kimber 1911s in 9mm are subpar to the price they ask for IMHO. I've fought off the urge for 1 1/2 years, but ultimately decided not to buy the 1911 9mm JUST because they are on the dreaded roster.

Luckily, I found a gun shop that recently made their own "single shot exemption" kits. So it's STI all the way. Just which one?

The website says it's match grade, but it doesn't feel as tight as a gunsmith-fitted Bar-Sto barrel would.

+1 on the STI Trojan. if you can get it through single shot or if you are exempted from the roster, i would highly recommend it.

That's my point. The price they are asking is out of line with the parts/work put into those two make/models. Does it have to do with them being the very few 1911 9mm on the roster?

If you are in Southern Cali..give OC Armory a call. They have "single shot" kits for 1911s.

It seems like an issue of elasticity of demand at this point. Everyone "wants" them and no company really manufactures hi-grade ones out of the box.

If I were Jim Hoag or someone of the sort I'd be drawing up some blue prints and putting some $800 match-grade single stack 1911's into production...

I owned and sold several 1911's in 9mm.

Now its a CZ Shadow/Target. The only pistol that I shoot better in 9mm is a SIG P210-2.

Go with a TRUE custom 1911, made for PPC shooting by one of the TOP shops or go with CZ .
