Dont listen to this personal protection garbage. How many of us actually do get to shoot an intruder, really? If you are worried about your gun being confiscated buy a hi point. When you buy junk it gives you a group of 6 inches at 25 yards you wished you had bought someting a little better. I am not saying spend $1500 + but you can find a fairly good one for around 1000.00 or even a nice used one so you dont have to fix and replace parts daily. You are not buying your gun for investment unless its a collector grade so dont worry about getting your money back. If it is a good gun why sell it? Also, nothing like having confidence in your weapon so dont forget an adjustable rear sight either.

i've never had to replace parts on my ria.

that said, there is something about the finish of 1911s priced higher than a ria. if you just want a beater gun to go shoot and not worry about the investment you put in it, get an ria. it runs great with hardball, and runs better with other ammo the more rounds you put in it. and with armscor's lifetime warranty, in the event something does break, you can always have them fix it for you.

if you want something nicer to look at however, but not spending all of your paycheck on one, a springfield loaded or kimber would fit the bill just as well. i've also been looking at smith and wesson's 1911s and besides the external extractor and sloppy trigger, it seems like a good deal also. i especially like their pd versions with the scandium frame.

whatever you get, think it over and get what you really want out of a 1911. is price the deciding factor? does fit and finish matter most? or is the name worth the extra few hundred dollars?

LOL, I'm sorry, I was under the assumption that in the back of our minds we do consider weapons for the rare chance we would need them to defend ourselves.

My statement was more tongue in cheek than anything but I guess I'll bow out and OP can disregard everything I've posted since you're here.

I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.
I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

I try not to get into it with anyone since this is more a hobby to me than anything else. My 850.00 SW 1911 shoots just as well as my Wilson Protector. We state our opinions and thats that, sometimes with more conviction than others. You seem to know what you're talking about.

No I really don't know much, but I agree no point in getting into anything, at the end of the day we're all gun owners and need to get along for the sake of the hobby and the forum. No hard feelings.

OP, just get a glock. (JK don't do it!)

              Amen!

Theres a lot of truth to the Glock statement though.

I just bought a used RIA tactical and so far it's shot great! it did come with a polished feed ramp though and so far has chambered every round flawlessly.
