    Night sights. Seriously?

    Night sights.

I have a lot of pistolas. Many of them have night sights. Many of them do not.

In all my years of shooting I have never once even come close to requiring night sights. Nor can I think of a single realistic situation where night sights would be remotely useful.

Sure, for fun I run about my house, in my boxer shorts, in the night, and marvel at the neat-o-ness of the three little glowing green dots that float around as I move my pistola in the dark. But when I come back to reality I can't think of a single reason I would ever shoot at something in the pitch darkness where I can't see what I'm shooting at but would require the accuracy improvement night sights provide in pitch black darkness.

The second a flashlight, either mounted to the pistol or in your hand, or pretty much any light source, is introduced the night sights are removed from the equation. The silhouette of the sights themselves become the aiming tool, not the glowing dots.

Other than the armchair commando factor, am I missing something? Is there a use for pistola night sights I don't know about? Is there an actual use for them? Am I alone in thinking this way?

You are just trying to stab the night sight industry in the heart aren't you?

If you had TFO's they'd be as good during the day as at night

+1 to the above. Especially in a bedside gun where it might make sense to use your knowledge of your house and the darkness to your advantage before you turn on the lights.

have a friend with you, observe that when there is enough light to see them, there still may not be enough light to resolve your sights adequately.
The Range is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time shooting it.
The Real World is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time not shooting it.

              This!

Well and I take my pistol camping in some remote places and have been stalked by big critters around the camp fire at night.
I would rather have them and be able to get on target faster then not have them and put my first round in the trees.... When it comes down to it I dont think Mr Mountain Lion or Brother Bear will be nice enough to wait for me to fumble a flashlight out of my pocket and flick it on....
Will I ever need them, I doubt it but why not have them as a just in case?

I agree you do not have TFO,s fast and easy to see in the day - dusk - dawn.

sounds like you need to spend more time at the range at night..

Long story but in short I ended up helping a few other hunters track a wounded black bear after the sun went down a couple of years ago. Rough heavily wooded terrain; needed hands to navigate so did not take my rifle. But did have a Gen 2 G20 10mm with nights sights on me that I had borrowed from a buddy for the hunt. Oh boy did that make a difference evertime I raised my pistol; at every friken shadow and boulder I may add cuz I was scared ****less the whole time. Ever since then all of my handguns have night sights. They make a world of difference when in the woods.

I have them on my TLE2 but I could care less....I have a flashlight for the dark..and if I couldn't get to it, in the distances i would use my gun in the house, I am confident enough with my point shooting that the sights would be irrelevant.
3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!
