    Sig Sauer SP2022

Looking into the Sig SP2022 for an out of state carry Firearm, anyone have any experience or info about the firearm itself?
    Thanks Calgunners!

Lol. Thread #999999999999 on this gun.

I tried it last Friday. I absolutely hated it, but many others will tell you they liked it. As with every gun, there are those who love it, and those who hate it. Couldn't stand the positioning of the levers, and the cheap feeling of the trigger and hammer. The hammer seems to flop around when you dry fire the gun.

The gun goes bang, but I'd want a little more quality for a carry firearm. If not classic Sig, then why not a M&P or a Glock, or something similar?

The all German made SIG SP2022's are GREAT guns. Lately, there have been some new, U.S. made SP2022's flooding the market. These come without nightsights, 1 magazine and a crappy finish. I would advise you to stay away from those. There is a good deal on a very nice all German made SP2022 with nightsights, 3 magazines and a beautiful finish here:

        Good Luck!

By design. What you probably experienced--not putting words into your mouth, though--was the hammer rebound system. Normally the hammer is not fully forward, limited by the sear engaging the safe notch. This is the normal carry position. When you dry-fire the sigpro, the sear is moved out of the hammer's way so the hammer can move fully forward to strike the firing pin. There is a little hammer reset spring in the tang that rebounds the hammer back into the safe notch position.

As long as you have the trigger trapped to the rear, you can manually play with the hammer and see this... push the hammer forward and it'll rebound back.

To the OP: Although the sigpro is not the gun for me, it is still a very nice weapon and well-liked by many.

I have a SP2022 in 9mm U.S. made and love it. No FTF or FTEs. Runs flawless with any kind of ammo I have used in it. I'm from Sacramento though and stayed away from those Turner's 2022's that everyone talked about.

Go to a shop and see if you like it. It's a great value gun. I like mine a lot. If you like DA/SA guns also check out FNP, beretta PX4 as they are both good guns with similar value. You're just going to have to find which gun you like the best. I'm not sure why everyone gets bent out of shape when there is a thread about this gun. There are 5x more threads about Glocks and M&P's.

I checked one out today, and it is essentially me deciding between one of these or the PX4. I am not sure which one I have not fired either just handled them both. I need to find someone who has one that I can give a shot at the range to really be the determining factor I guess.

While I have both(px4&2022)as well as the fnp, I prefer shooting the px4 because of the grip and softer felt recoil. The 2022 has the best trigger,as well as night sights and ilafon finish. If you can't shoot them, at least go to the LGS and hold 'em to see which one feels right to you.

Since you say you plan to use it for carry, you may want to check out availability of holsters for the SP2022 as well as other guns you're considering. One of the complaints on the Sig forum has been the lack of holsters for the newer SigPro with the non-proprietary rail. However, there was a recent thread going listing current holster options.

From what I recall, XD holsters fit SigPros.

SP2022s are great guns if you like the Sig format. I actually prefer them over P-Series. They're not as nice looking or even feeling, but I thought overall they had a better trigger and just shot better for me. Things to keep an eye out though, your hands may not agree with having the decocker and slide catch protruding so much. I know my hands didn't, but my girlfriend's was fine. I just recently sold one to fund a P99 and G34 (decided to just go with striker-fire in general). Aside from personal preference, I had zero complaints about it and mine has been accurate/reliable 100% of the time in the 1,000 rounds I put through it.

well I appreciate the insight and responses, looks like the next step is get a feel for the other options and see which one I would prefer. I have always been a Glock guy but want to branch out here and try new things.

Look at FNP-9 if you are looking at the 2022.

I love the SP2022. Mine is made here in America and the only complaint i have is 10rd mags are expensive and hard to find. I dont think it feels cheap at all, the trigger is really good, and it shoots accurately. I dont think you can find a better pistol brand new in the box for $400.

Love my 2022. Reliable, accurate and the current market price just too low to say no to.
