      Glock.

Also, the Makarov in the surplus category. That thing will go bang every single time. I have not cleaned it between 3-4 range trips at times yet it still keeps going. I never abuse my other handguns that way. But the Mak, I don't take care of it as much yet have had 0 problems.

....uh......california's finest, the BRYCO of course!

Seriously though that piece of ugliness was in my hands at a range once and I shot it and wow, I hit the paper every time, and I tried all kinds of 9mm-I think I had 5 or 6 types of reloads/factory/FMJ-JHP and it ate them all up....

I mention this one because if you concentrate on the basics you can make something go bang reliably. I personally would not be caught dead....or should I say I feel that in a gunfight I would be dead with one of those ugly things. But that thing was reliable at the range that day.

That said, has anyone mentioned a GLOCK?

I have a G-19 first Generation and it has never had a jam of any kind in original configuration, and only jamme when I tried to put a lasermax in it then it was like a jam every 10 rounds.

But without the lasermax with their custom recoil spring and laser in spring guide I have never had a jam in maybe 6000 rounds.

My Ruger P89 is a close second with a couple jams in maybe 3000 rounds but it is hard to keep the rounds on the paper.

My Sig-228 wich passed the JASP trials as tied for the best maybe had a dozen or so jams in 10000++ rounds. Funny thing is I am most accurate with this one.

Grandpa's old 1911 hates JHP-as it is well worn and everything is sloppy in it, but it loves regular ball ammunition and maybe in 2000+ rounds ??? has never had a jam.

So unlike everyone elses answer where they say, blah blah blah is most reliable but you first must change this that and the other thing....

I will say what has not been mentioned...

The GLOCK is the answer as long as you do not change anything out.

Especially don't put a Lasermax on that sucker.

....oh, am I the first person to say a

        GLOCK!

Try a used Browning HP (never had one new, so can't compare out of the box), or if you need new... A Kimber Custom II Stainless has functioned flawlessly no matter what has been put into it.

Have also had very good luck with a Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail Classic.

But to answer your original question I'd say Glock.

The first gun of any sort that I ever shot was a glock 17. I had no idea what the recoil of a real gun was like, I wasn't thinking and was holding the gun like I expected the recoil of a Time Crisis arcade gun. Not only did I limp-wrist it, I almost dropped it! (my finger was in the triggerguard and the grip of the gun was between the heels of my hands) BUT IT DIDN'T HICCUP! I didn't realize how incredible that was at the time. I bought a revolver, though. :P No better way to guarantee revolver-like reliability...

I think that you will be well served with either a Sig or H&K. I own several of both manufactures and have never had any sort reliablity issue with any of them. I think everybody just says Glock because they are soooo cheap. And yes I own a Glock too, but only one. I have never had any reliabilty issues with it either. I personally don't care for Glocks. Here come the flames!

Hi, my name is Clyde and I'm a Glockaholic. It started this year and I just can't seem to get off the Glock, though I've been seeking help, nothing has worked. I can't seem to shake the urge to go out shooting, showing them off, or buying Glocks, and I know I can easily end up shaking down friends to shoot theirs or buy them. It has to stop, right?

Oh, and the answer to the OP's question, well, Glock of course.

Have a great gun carryin' Kenpo day

                        Springfield XD 45?

Have there been any significant issues with the XD 45? I've had no issues with mine, and have been feeding it everything from American Eagle to Wolf poly coated stuff. no misfires, misfeeds or jams yet, out of 300 rounds. No limp wrist issues even when my GF took it out, and she'd never fired anything bigger than .22 before.

The 1911A1 are relyable and they get the job done. I hated the XD's double trigger, mostly because it was a rental and it must have been used to much.
It really comes down to the gun and the user. Then again, the only handguns in my house are revolvers since they are more relyable than semiautos.
