I have seen couple of people limp wrist and have difficulty. I personally had a bad day with a chipped extractor until I figured out what was happening to me.

GLOCK 17.

Although the G19 is also if not more popular, I didn't want to chance it with the constant redesigns of the barrel/locking mechinism and stupid 10 round magazine followers not always agreeing with the G19.

My G17 jammed twice, once when my cousin limp-wristed it (first day I shot it too, arrrgghh!!) and once when I was doing a IDPA qualifier and either limp-wristed due to being a nervous n00b, or a poorly seated magazine.

Other than that, boom everytime after several thousand rounds.

except you get 10, 17, 19, or 33 rounds of bang instead of six.

just don't be a pansy when hanging onto it, limpwristing an autoloader is a problem that you can easily fix (just tighten the nut behind the wheel)

The only pistol I own (for now) is an XD9 Service. Its got 5,400rds through it, 4,000+ have been bulk purchased reloads. Its only stopped running about six times, and every time its been due to a case that should never have been reloaded in the first place. I try to catch the bad ones when I'm loading mags, but every now and then once gets past me. Never had a single problem with factory new FMJ or JHP in standard or +P pressures.

The only New Out of the Box guns that I've fired are Glock and SIG. I can't say that I've had any failures with either (except the slide locking back because my thumb was riding the lever on an SP2022).

One thing about the SIG is that they're covered with a nasty preservative goo that is a pain to wipe off. It was years ago since I bought my Glocks, but I don't think they had any of that nastiness. Having said that, if Zombies took over the world and I happened into a gun store I'd probably grab a Glock as my sidearm (not to mention whatever else I could get my grubby hands on).

If you're considering any of a variety of name-brand autoloaders, IMHO there may be more item-to-item variation within a given brand/model line than from brand to brand.

Anecdotal recounting of failures by average folks also don't count for much - esp when you scratch deeper and find they're shooting their (or range's) reloads, glued on extra BS so the gun's outta stock configuration, using crappy mags, etc.

[In a similar vein, most folks having AR15 problems usually due to poor lubrication, crappy mags, crappy ammo or just plain outta-spec bottom-feeder parts.]

Plus, remember there's "Internet reporting bias" - way more folks on web forums bitch, complain or question instead of praise.

If you buy a common model of a widely-circulated name-brand gun, it's likely gonna work just fine for you if you follow the rules (clean/lubed, good ammo, etc.) Your selection should not be on artificial measures of possibly misperceived reliability, but what gun's ergonomically best for you and with which you can shoot best.

I'll put my XD45 up against a Glock of the same caliber any day. They are both great pistols as far as reliability goes. I might not be the best test subject though, I take really good care of my pistols and it shows in their flawless function.

Norinco

I'd have to say Norinco in 9 mm is the best all around fail safe gun!


Just kidding of course but I did just have a visit from my very thrifty cousin and his wife. We went to the local range and he brought along his RV camping defense gun. It is a Norinco 9 mm with the Star on the grip in semi auto. It cost him $120.00 a few years back.

Well, I whipped out my Glock 17 and fired rounds like a trooper without a hickup. Then he starts to fire his Norinco whatever model it is with metal grinding finish and mags springs that feel like one's on a cap gun. Anyway he fired at least 200 rounds of my ammo, his china ammo, my Remington hollow points etc. without a hickup.

Anyway, the Norinco finish is crap, the sights terrible, the feel lousy, the trigger rough but the reliability 100%.

9mm's seem to work about the best in any design from other calibers. His gun would be about my last choice on earth though!

By the way this guys rich and worth about 3 million dollars but doesn't care for guns that much so he shops for the cheapest gun available. Go figure!
