If it's not on the "approved list" then it has to be a PPT. PPTs are exempt from the 30 day wait!

Okay, I'll wage in on this. I've owned 2, the first just because I was curious. The 2nd--I bought a used rifle to give to my son and told the guy I'd take it if he threw in a Raven he also had for sale. Got a good deal on the rifle and a basically free useless .25 auto.

They were both reliable shooters. Not accurate, definitely not powerful, but they fed well. I've been told that if they are dropped the slide may crack because it is diecast zinc. This leads me to wonder if the stories of unreliable feeding is because they may have been abused and the slide no longer fits well.

DO NOT carry with a round in the chamber. The safety over the left grip on those I owned can easily be pushed off safe in a pocket, even while in a holster.

While most of us scoff at using such a weapon in defense, remember that any gun may influence an assailant to stop, and any weapon is preferable to none. Also, many people who deserve protection are on low and fixed incomes. A pistol like this is a low-cost purchase they can afford which might just save a life.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

REALLY!? I saw it in a used gun case at a gun shop. Does this still count as PPT?

            Raven

First. If you saw it in a used gun case, it will NOT count as a ppt. It is either
a store gun or consignment. Second. Save the $50 twords a better gun.
Third. I will quote the late Jeff Cooper, one of the formost pistol experts in the world. "Carry a .25 if it makes you fell better, but don't load it. If you load it, you might shoot someone, making them very angry and they would do
you serious bodily harm!" Fourth. While serving as an officer in Vietnam, I saw
a female Viet-Cong shoot my First Sergeant six times with a .25, four of the six rounds hitting him in the chest, two in the arm. He drew his .45 and made
a good Viet-Cong out of her. He then walked over to the medical hooch and our medic extracted all six rounds, then bandaged him and sent him to the hospital. He was back on duty, a week later!

Good story, I would not be using this gun for self defense. The extremely low price and non-CA approvedness of it attracts me to it. I know it is not the best gun. I know a .25 isn't a great round. But for $50 it might make a nice piece to the family.

Don't do it, Man.....some of us didn't know better when we first purchased uber-cheap guns. We know better now. Buy the best that you can afford. Wait and save a little if you have to (teaches self discipline and fiscal responsibility).

If you want a little .25, get a Baby Browning or a Beretta 950. You'll pay about $100 more, but you'll have something that you're proud to pass on to your kids.

If it is on consignment, the 30 day thing does not apply! If it is a shop owned "used" gun, then it has to be on the Ca. approved list. Since, I did not see it on the approved list, the ONLY way you can buy this (assuming your not LE) is by doing a PPT. If you want it, just go to the shop and start the DROS. Or, save up a few more dollars and find a Berretta 950.

I guess living in NV I have a hard time getting the restriction in CA clear in my head. Here, I just buy it and walk away with it. There is a 72 hour wait for those who don't have a 'blue card' to prove they have other handguns. Handguns are registered, but if you have a CHL there $25 dollar fee for the NICS check does not apply. You can buy as many as you wish in a given period, more than one per visit.

It would be hard to do the 30 day wait if I found something cool and had to put the purchase off because of a Raven!

Curious: What if you want another purchae before the 30 days is up? Do you pay for it, put a deposit, and just hold for the 30 days before beginning paper work and then the 10 days starts?

The .25 is not a very powerful round and your story proves it. But about the consignment the guns that are on consignment at a gun store are also exempt from the 30 day period because they are already in the system. As the owner of the gun shop I go to told me once "buy all of my consignment guns today so you wont have to spend to much on DROS and you and me both will be happier men."

Maybe CRT will chime in on this one.... there was a guy that used to come into his store that had a little .25 mousegun. His buddy was playing with it and managed to shoot himself under his chin.....he spit out 2 teeth and a bullet.

Funny little guns to play with, but not worth a crap for PP. I did score a head-shot on a rabbit point-shooting from about 20 yards with a co-workers little .25 though..... couldn't believe I hit it...... the little sucker was running too! It's one of those things that I couldn't do again if I tried.... the little guy just looked at me in disbelief..... I was looking down at the gun in my hand in disbelief....
