I do not believe the bugs are worked out of them yet, the first smaller frame Glocks were designed around 9mm and were reliable in 9mm with problems in .357 and .40. The Gen 4 was designed around .40 and is now having intermittent extraction problems with the 9mm models that are being diagnosed heavily by Todd Green and people on his forum who shoot alot (500-1000+ a week). The problems are possibly related to the extractor, ejector and/or recoil assembly.
Todd Green will probably have the highest round privately owned Gen 4 Glock http://pistol-training.com/archives/4695
Showing some of the different numbered and shaped extractors:

There are 14 pages of status reports of good and bad with various Gen 4 models here:
Interesting reading from Glocktalk who is as Pro-Glock as they get:
A small sample of these people have had extraction problems here
The endurance test on GT
All the recoil assemblies available which looks to me as Glock is hoping a lighter recoil assembly may fix the problem for most problematic guns, and why did they add a counterbore to the slide so soon after being released? IMO, they're still chasing what ever problems that are popping up as round counts rise.
IMO I'd wait until more bugs are worked out before buying one personally, with the M&P I knew there were still a few bugs even after being out about 5 years but I knew what the fixes were.My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment

I voted 17 only because the 34 was not an option. If I could pick? Gen-3 Glock 34Dom

Your joking right? I got 2 Draco's and I would never think about using them for a on duty side arm. Those are simply range toys to me and not much more than that.
I would go with either the 19 or 23. Which ever caliber you prefer.Comment

Partial to a .40. and the correct answer would have been the glock OD ****

I would pick the XD-40, but the G-17 can accept 'Brady certified' assault clips which until recently adds to it's coolnessSome say that he once mooned two prostitutes just for a round of drinks, but wasn't surprised by the reply......They call him, the Hutch
Some say that he rode a dirtbike 7k miles across the country and that he once applied Bengay to his own testicles for a mere $50............They call him, the Hutch -Top Gear

why do you say that? i was under the impression that dracos were incredibly reliable. maybe a little impractical, especially for a side arm, but the power they pack is still pretty good.Comment

To further expand;
I'm not alone in thinking/advocating that a manual safety is a good feature for an openly carried duty gun.
I'm also a fan of the DA/SA platform (far less universal support for this, clearly
)
If you want a good duty gun, it's hard to beat a full size M&P with a thumb safety, in .40 if you can't shoot 9 any better (and 9 if you can shoot it better than .40).
For DA/SA leaning folks, There are Berettas and HKs that have both decockers and safeties.The Range is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time shooting it.
The Real World is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time not shooting it.
Plan Accordingly.
