but for your gun i think if you have a light rail you should definitely take advantage of that. IMHO serves you much better than night sights. If you hear a bump in the night, id want to make sure it was a bad guy not family, and if all you see is a silouette, how would tell the difference?

Every firearm you own may end up being the tool you use to protect yourself or your family one day. No other firearm in the world other than an AK is as reliable as a Glock, so good choice.

If money is tight the standard sights will get the job done but if I were to change one thing, I would go to a set of Meprolight nigh sights (without a doubt the best night sights on the market). Other than that your Glock is perfect as is.

The best upgrades for a Glock I've found are included in the Essential Package from Glockmeister.com. I've put these parts on all my Glocks and they include: Night sights (I prefer Meprolights), extended slide stop, extended takedown lever, backstrap channel insert and extended mag release (I substitute the regular mag release from a .45/10mm instead of the actual extended mag release and it saves about $20 for a part that performs the same function the same way AND is a factory Glock part.

Last time I purchased this package it was about $100 and is well worth it. With these parts installed I haven't found the need for any other modifications on my Glocks.

I have three Glocks, and each of them has a different sighting system. My G19 has factory night sights, which I like as they're the 3-dot kind which I'm familiar with on a lot of my other firearms. My G21SF has the stock square-and-white-dot sights, which I don't mind at all, and my G34 has a "competition" sight on it (can't remember the name now - I wasn't the first owner) which is all black and just the standard noth and post. I imagine it's a quick sight in broad daylight, but it kind of sucks for range shooting. I was thinking of swapping them out for night sights like on my G19.

When I purchased the G17 they asked me if I wanted to add night sights, I should have. I like the 3 dot sights better.

I would've strongly recommended not changing the connector, or anything else for that matter. It's like somebody who never rode a motorcycle before wondering if he should change the front tire diameter.

The old saying is the best accessory you can spend money on to improve your shooting is a box of ammo.

I like how the trigger feels with the 3.5 lb. connector. I'll leave it on and not change the springs.

That sounds like the best way to go. Fun & cheap Do you have any suggestions on a rifle? Are Marlins any good? They have 1 at Big 5 for about $159.99 or should I steer clear of Big 5?

.22lr for my little dude (10 yrs. old)

So it looks like I have to find out what kind of .22lr to buy my Son. FUUUUUN

But nothing can compare to teaching your son proper, safe gun handling and his 'right of passage' with a .22.

All 5 of my kids (4 are adults now)...grew up with accountability and responsibility with various weapons. the .22 is a great start.!

One left...and at 13 she LOVES the GLOCK 26. (she also loves her Ruger 22/45)

Awesome! Yeah I'm going with the .22 purchase for my boy. Safety is a must.

IMO, if you're first starting out with a Glock that's new to you, I would only change out (add) the extended slide stop lever and possibly the extended mag release. Leave everyting else alone.

Adding night sights or 3.5lb connectors or different springs or barrels can come later. First get used to the gun, practice with the gun, and break in the gun. Then after you feel very comfortable with it and know the in's and out's of it, I would then start to tinker and change out other things that you feel may benefit you (trigger, connector, springs, sights, grips, etc).
