After putting a few hundred rounds through my XD SC9 I got use to the standard mag and short length and really love it. The compact is nice too but not really ccw in my opinion

I love it! I am thinking of a crimson trace grip and some truglo TFO's next for it.

I would love an XDm but I don't want to be the one to neuter it, also don't know of any local (Anaheim) shops that do SS conversions. However those pearce grip extensions look exactly like what I would need to make the sub compact fit me like a glove. Thanks for the pictures and the info. much appreciated.

the xd/xdm are a poor choice for concealed carry due to printing.

            with all due respect...
if you cant conceal an xdsc well, there is something wrong with how you carry it
the xdm comp is a longer barrel but a thinner profile gun, imo

                I don't believe that to be accurate. I owned 2 4" .40's.

Note my Handle... I have some experience with XDs.... I own three, well built-out versions of them.

I have to kind of agree with the previous poster. The XD-SCs are just not good CCW guns... not because they print (they disappear pretty well... even with a good OWB holster) but because they are just too darn heavy and chunky for daily IWB carry! They are really very uncomfortable to carry IWB for eight hours (I have Comp-Tac & Crossbreed IWB holsters for my XD-SC... nothing more comfortable than those available!). For intentionally unspoken reasons, urban citizens in CA need a "Deep Cover" carry gun, so an OWB carry is not a viable choice. They are great "Open Carry" guns though... very comfortable in my Comp-Tac paddle holster.

For Home Defense, SHTF sidearm, Range shooting and IDPA/IPSC shooting, I think the 5" Tactical XDs are fantastic. I see no benefit of going with a 4" barrel version of an XD for those purposes. For Deep cover, daily CCW, only the smallest and lightest 9mm's, 38's, 380s and .32s are practical. Those who can carry bigger guns than that IWB in comfort, all day long, are either lying about it, or are those skinny types who don't have any love handles to dig into!

I believe a 5" barrel tactical, combined with a micro CCW gun, are the only two handguns anyone needs to own for self defense. Everything else is gun-nut obsession. On that note, anyone what to buy and XD40-SC?

                    Pappabacon,

That is a service. The compact only comes in 45.

I'd recommend the Pearce grip extension as well. Bought a couple of new magazines and shot without them a couple of week backs and there was a definite lack of control and comfort. With them, it definitely made a huge difference. I'd try that route first.

                          He's referring to the "compact".

The 9, 40, and 357 4" are "Service" and take the full 16rd mags without the mag extension sleeve.

In the XD (not XDm), they only offer a "compact" in the .45. It's a 4" barrel, but only accepts the 10rd magazines... 13rds with the extension sleeve (making it nearly identical to the 4" Service).

After shooting the XD9sc again, I'm gonna pull the trigger on one. So here is my next question, whats a reasonable price for the XD9 Subcompact? I have seen them as low as ~$460 online to ~$550 in store. Are these about the normal prices for them? Also any one have any recommendations as far as shops that have a good price on them in Orange county?

around $500 is the price i've seen at local stores (not including tax, dros, etc.), add some money if you want the Bi-Tone.

If you're not deadset on buying a brand spanking new one, i'd take a look around the marketplace here and try to score a lovingly-used one... this will save you around $100 OTD and it will most likely come with extras. just a thought!
