Exactly my mindset. I don't have any guns that are really collectibles. I buy guns that I enjoy shooting and don't think too far ahead other than taking care of the guns I have so they last as long as I do at least.

Both me and my girlfriend aren't big fan of kids, so thats even questionable in my future.

When I go - all my guns go to my son... hopefully he will shot them or sell them for a Bimmer (or Porsche!)...

At 21 you need to either stay in college or get a job and stop worrying about things that are not due your age yet.

I wont care where my guns go if I die. I think my brother will get them if I get around to writing a will. Im 24 and could see kids in the future so we will see.

My 7 and 14 year olds love guns and shooting. Hopefully my 1 year old will too. Everything will be divided between them except for my AR. The AR will be shipped to AZ so my brother can keep or sell it. Stupid Kali laws.

That's a good idea. Wouldn't want anybody's wives sellin' 'em for what we told 'em we paid for 'em...

I've started giving my guns to my kids now when they are in their twenties and have a lifetime of shooting ahead of them. Why wait another twenty or thirty years (if I'm lucky) when I croak and they inherit them in their fifties? So far I've given my four kids the all GI M1A, the DCM M1, the BHP, the Ruger MK2, Beretta 92 and my teenage son covets the DSA 58 and M1 carbine. Older son lusts after the P6. They'll get them soon. Problem is I keep buying replacements! If I die before I give them all away whatever is left over after the kids pick through it goes for sale with the help of a friend. He gets to pick one of the guns as his pay! Better that way than what my wife threatens to do: pile it all up, set it on fire and stand way back as it explodes.

I already have two kids with definite plans to have more. One of them will want them, or will sell them, if not my younger brother will weed through them, keep some for his kids, and sell the rest.

"I'm getting old son (referring to me), I have not bought a new firearm for a while and what's the point when I die who's going to take possession of my precious firearms? All I have is a daughter that could care less about firearms. This got me thinking, for all you young, middle, late age gun owners what or have you thought about your valued firearm collections when you go meet your maker? Please I'm not trying to make you all feel grim and what not it was just a thought I wanted to share with all of you. After all, the way it's going for me since turning of age (21) I've been buying one firearm every year! I think it'll stop soon.
I agree with this comment. My daughter has no desire to learn to shoot...Sad. I buy for me but the thing is, I have to God Sons and I will definitely pass along my rifles and handguns to them. I will give my daughter one handgun and my 1972 WASR which is her mother's birth year but that is it. I hope in 5 years I stop buying guns...I would sure have a lot more money for motorcycles.

YES! That's what I plan to do. I checked with Gene, and he said yes, they will auction them off, or do whatever to raise money...

Nobody surviving me likes guns either, and I don't want the Family dumping them for $0.25 on the dollar. I just have to do the paperwork...

Guns and Ammo magazine has a great article about this topic in this months edition.
It talks about naming who gets them, Haveing them priced out so your family or wife isn't stuck trying to figure out what you have and whats it worth.
The article says to buy a reference book and highlight what you have and what condition. I would roll over twice in my grave if one of my "friends" took advantage of my newly widowed wife and bought any of my guns for a quarter of what their worth.

I have three daughters who will end up with my collection. I've taught all of them how to safely handle firearms and how to shoot. One will end up with a M70 Winchester made the same year I was; another a Pre-WWII genuine Mauser training rifle; the third has her eye on a Ruger M77V. Then there are the Sigs and the Beretta's. I've also taught my grandkids safety and how to shoot. Father's Day, I'm taking them all shooting again.
