    Help re: 22lr pistols

Let's make a long story short. There's a person that's made some threats to my dad, he has to go to my aunt's to try and make some preparations to leave, but my step-mom has to stay behind. She doesn't like guns much, so I can't loan her one of my semi's for defense(this person knows where they live). So I need some recommendations of a reliable 22 handgun she can use if she needs to. If the situation were different, I'd go stay with her, but I can't.

My dad said he'd like to see something magazine fed, though those tend to have issues. I'm thinking a 6-8shot revolver would be a better fit. Through out some options, and if there's one in the classifieds, you get bonus points.

I really like my Beretta Neos (just got back from shooting about 800 rounds through it). I have 4 magazines for it and works awesome.

Stay away from Remington Golden Bullets and, well... you're golden.

Smith and wesson 617. I think there's a model that hold 10 rounds and it has the titanium frame. They're a bit expensive thought.

My mom doesn't like guns either but wanted something small and easy to carry when she walks her dogs so I got her a beretta .25auto pocket pistol. Its very easy to load since it has a flip up barrel kinda like a breach loading shotgun, it also has a 6 round magazine. DA/SA so all you have to do is flip up the barrel and load a round and just pull the trigger, she has troubles manipulating a slide on a normal semi auto so this worked out great for her. She has put about 300 rounds through it and it has been very reliable no malfunctions. It was fairly inexpensive too, I paid $150 for it NIB.

Someone who doesn't like/is not familiar with guns+Female = revolver.

A wheel gun is essentially a "pick it up, point and pull the trigger" weapon that involves minimal training and familiarization, whereas any auto pistol, even an almost no recoil Ruger MkII with a bull barrel is going to take more time and training to use with any effect.

Not saying at all that it can't be learned, but until you get someone above that learning curve male or female an 8 shot 22 LR revolver loaded with Stingers will do the trick.
          Slow justice is no justice.

I was shooting a Glock when shooting a Glock wasn't cool.

The neo's is interesting. Pretty cheap, so it's an option. I just don't want something that she could get a malfunction, because she won't put the time needed into malfunction clearing.

I meantioned something like a .25ACP or .380. If I get my dad to agree, we'll look at a Bersa thunder.

Swift_justice: Any thoughts on a .22 revolver? I suggested .38 but I think that's going to be way too much. Less expensive is ideal.

The Neos just fell off the roster so it would have to be a PP sale.
              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

                .22

Why has'nt your dad taken the simplest route. Reporting it to the police.
Making criminal threats can constitute a felony in California. Having said that,
Your mom would be better off with a .38 revolver. Taurus makes a good quality revolver that can be had for less than a quality .22, as does Charter Arms.

Waiting for someone like you to come along. That's been done. There's no proof of the threats that were made, and so nothing can be done as of yet. I don't want to wait for harm to come to her, before the cops do anything about it.

Why do any of us own firearms? To defend ourselves if it should come to it. Consider this to be the same situation.

A 38 hammerless revolver seems to be the most commonly reccomended thing for this situation -

Otherwise - this needs to be reported to the police, and if you are going to provide a home defense weapon for somebody they need to be properly trained.

It was already considered. Due to the noise and recoil, my dad doesn't think that's the best idea.

Just because someone isn't trained, doesn't mean they don't have a right to self defense. I'm not going to hand her a gun and tell her to go gung-ho. I'm going to teach her what I can. But she is simply not going to spend 8 hours a day at the range until she can shoot little tiny groups. I'll take her out one or two times to teach her the basics and some fundamentals. That's neither here nor there.

Have you thought about getting a Revolver chambered in a .32 caliber magnum round? A lot more bang than a .22lr and you could still shot .32 Longs out of them for less recoil but again still more bang than a .22lr.

the good thing about women is that they can carry purses adn they hold any type of gun. either way, I'd suggest a nice little NAA mini revolver. it fits nearly everything you need and is nice and small so she can have it on you at all times (they sell belt buckles and neck chain holsters for it cuz its so small). Great protection and it works. you just need pratice to get efficient at it. there are vids of people shooting 100 feet and able to pop balloons with it so dont tell me you cant hit the broad side of a barn with it!

Just picked this up today after the 10 day vacation.

Was gonna dros a neos but it was already pulled off the approved list. Turners recommendation was the browning. I haven't seen complaints on it.
