USGI 1911 A1 from WWII. (Singer, Remington Rand, Colt, doesn't matter). At least you would have peace of mind that that thing was actually made in America.

I just picked this Springfield Loaded last Monday and it's all US. Don't rule out SA. You can always verify before putting any funds into it.

[QUOTE=NiteQwill;6074564]You'd get a Kimber, with their lack of QC and 1 year warranty, over a Springfield Armory NM-frame finished in the US with a lifetime warranty?

          Make sense.

My Kimber took some work to get it running 100%. Several parts were out of tolerance. It's reliable now but a $1000 gun should not take work to function properly.

I love my gun now but I will never buy another Kimber.
The capitalist economic model is fundamentally flawed. It is not self sustaining, and can only maintain itself with constant growth. Obviously infinite growth is impossible, so the question is not whether the economy will collapse, but when.

Get your guns, ammo, and food while the stores still stock them. Prepare yourself now, because when the meltdown comes it will be too late.

Then set it up to your liking.

I am rather fond of my S&W1911's......

So much in fact that I'd have to throw a pic of them in your face to push you in that direction. My camera doesn't do them justice....

Sorry, but you are missing the obvious choice - Dan Wesson. A new PM-7 is in your price range, and is argueably the best value in that segment. All US made, lifetime warranty, Ed Brown parts, forged frame, etc.

Speak from personal experience, Or just internet bashing? It's funny because my $700 Kimber runs like a sewing machine, And every one of my friends that own them have never had a single issue through thousands of rounds.

Mine too, fullspeed1. I have Springfields (2) which used to be 4, I've had Colts (4) now all sold away, and my latest 1911 is a Kimber Custom II.

The Kimber is WAY above all that I've owned in fit, finish, and reliability (there was no need to even contact the manufacturer).

With the 4 SA's, I had to do some adjustment and tweaking of the the extractors as all 4 came in from the factory, misadjusted. Then they became realiable. But I don't bash SAs, in fact I also recommend them. But the OP of this thread, SPECIFICALLY said he did not want Springfields.

I am trying to ignore most of the Kimber, Oops, I meant MIMber bashing, But any production 1911 under $2000 is going to have the same small parts quality, Including TRP's. For those who don't understand the simplicity of Kimber's swartz safety and how it's a complete none issue, Should not throw stones in glass houses. If my one and only pistol were to be a 1911, I sure would pony up to a well made hand fitted fully custom firearm. Other wise, My Glock 19 will forever be my go to. I love my Kimber custom II, And it's great at the range and maybe even in a class or two, But I probably wouldn't roll in the mud with it.

Not meant to bash Kimbers. Actually was eyeing a Custom II. In terms of personal experience, I can only speak for SA. My MC Operator was spot on out of the box and to quote you "runs like a sewing machine" as well. Can't complain about SA's Lifetime Warranty either.

I thought all SA were made in Brazil, but some are fit and finished in the US. Doesn't sound like an "American Made" gun to me.

You could end up getting a much nicer one for the money, or one that would be equivalent to any new one your are looking at (a used kimber for example) which would leave you $ left over for some custom gunsmith upgrades in the future.

                                Anyway, my 2 cents.
Yeah it is an option to get used. For sure...However, I would want to keep it stock. The only feature I want is ambi thumb safety. All three quite honestly felt great in my hand. However, that S&W felt different and I liked the weighting on it. Only upgrade I would ever want is the grip but that is not huge for me.
