I used Milpro 7 and KG carbon cleaner. Both are water based like Simple Green. KG cleans grime much better than Hoppes, however has strong fumes.

I found that Milpro7 is not fast with cleaning grime. Simple Green cleans better than Milpro7 with a fraction of the price.

People recommend rinsing with distilled water after Simple Green; but, I'm too lazy to add a step in my cleaning process. As long as you wipe all surface dry, Slip 2000 EWL will lube and protect from rust.

I've used this combination on my SS Barsto barreled G22 and CZ 75 and have had no issues. I ran 1k rounds without relubing on my CZ75 in one session, no issues, the action stayed smooth, Slip2000 kept it lubed.

By the way, Slip2000 clear like baby oil, without a hint of oil odor. I use it for storing my reloading dies as well.

When I was in the Army it was forbidden to use any water-based cleaner. Or for that matter, to use water to clean period. We broke this rule in extreme circumstances where our pieces got very filthy, such as swamps, river crossings, etc. So out of habit I have always just used hoppes. With the water-based cleaners I would think that you are courting rust. No?

Does anyone else like ballistol? It works great on my guns as a cleaner and preserver. I just grease the rails and a couple other small metal/metal contact areas and I am good to go

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it makes sense to just buy another bottle of some of the good stuff, I care too much for my gun not to.

dab, then wipe. it's sometimes hard to see and control how much is applied. I almost always find I applied too much even when i was just using gravity to get a dab of tetra out. so I lightly wipe the area after. Gun lube has almost no viscosity. it'll just seep out of everywhere, if you're not careful.

I agree as well. I realize at times its hard to control that stuff but as long as they dont lather it on. At some point you'll have to wipe off excess on the frame as you work the slide in and out of battery to test function.

In any case OP, you cant go wrong with alot of what people here are mentioning. I just hoppes 9 and bore brush, and patches and gloves since I dont care for getting that stuff on my hands. Just be careful on the oil you use and dont get it on the recoil spring!

I've used simple green undiluted straight from the spray bottle.

If you're worried about corrosion, use EXTREME SIMPLE GREEN, which is non-corrosive.

You can get it at their website or pepboys.

basic $20 cleaning kit, patches and bore brush.. tooth brush for the feedramp and hard to reach places.. milpro7 works well and has a sprayer.. a drop or two of oil down the slide rails then hand cycle it a few times.. take it apart again and wipe off all the extra.. 3000+/- rounds through the m&p and so far no issues..
