Sig Pro Series

What are your thoughts on the Sig Pro Series? I am thinking about getting a Sig Sauer as my first handgun. And I heard that the Sig Pro Series were good. That they are like the best of both worlds. But would the Sig Pro Series be a good duty gun to use for security? I want a Sig as my duty gun but I do not think I can afford a Sig P226 or P228. Someone said I should get a Sig pro. Or a Sig P225/6.

The sig pro is an awesome gun. Recently though a newer version of the sp2022 was released and its apparently a jam-o-matic pos. Lots of guys bought them from turners for $400 and they were prone to problems. I bought my sp2022 before that version was released and mine has worked flawlessly. Feels great in my hand, has an excellent trigger, and is da/sa. There are hundreds of threads about the sp2022 in this forum. One comes up every other day. They've really beat this subject around alot here. If you search you'll find a lot....and I mean a lot of info and experiences with them. They are very, very decent guns. Just shot one recently. Its got a slightly smoother DA trigger than a steel Sig Sauer. In any case I'm sure it'd make a fine duty gun, but really you can get a used 229 or 228 for just 150 more. I'm getting the .40 Sig Pro next though, so dont be discouraged by its price. It's good quality.

If your using it for security as a duty weapon, find the cheapest gun you can get. Reason being, more than likely you are not going to use it. Believe me, I've been armed as a guard for the last 6 years, and never had to draw my weapon. WAY different than LEO's.

Number 2: If someone wants your gun bad enough, they will just take it from you. Its been proven here in my city with transit security. Some poor guard just doing his job gets jacked by some wanna be thugs.

Number 3: If you are going to be carrying a sig, you better get real good with it, instead of just looking good with it. Don't buy a duty gun for the bling factor. Buy a gun you don't mind departing from, yet must be trust worthy. Ask yourself, "If I shoot someone, will I miss this gun as it sits in evidence for the next 2 or 3 months? Is it worth losing if I get attacked from behind?"

Number 4: If you can afford a sig, but not enough for ammo to practice, not a good idea. Split the money. A new Sig will run just under $1000 for base and gets up $1500 easy. Spend $500 on your weapon, $500 on ammo. Don't forget holster, mags and mag pouches. You will want top of the line ammo for duty. Speer gold dots, JHP are fine.

More guys bought them and have zero issues.. is that internet lore starts?

The 2022 I bought from Turners has been problem free with over 500 rnds through it.

Mine has the internal extractory, german lower.. at any given time there seems to be several "versions" of the 2022 on the market.. diff grip sizes, diff sights, different country of origin, finish, extractor, loaded round indicator, etc.

Love mine.. best "bang for the buck" in my safe.

Yea I am looking into getting a Sig Pro 2022. Heard its a really good handgun. Seen some great reviews on it online. So hopefully one of the local gun shops here in Fresno sells them.

Sig Pros are great. They are the best value in the entire Sig catelog. The double action trigger is smoother than just about any other Sig I've had (all DA/SA). However, I didn't like the SA trigger. There's nothing wrong with it. But it has a different feel than my Sigs (all P series). Since you don't own any other Sigs, you should have no problem with it.

Heed THE NEW GUY's advice. Buy lots of ammo and practice with your duty weapon. A nice looking pistol that you never practice with is pretty much worthless.

The New Guy.... Great practical points to consider before buying a gun. I've bought 16 guns in the last 9-10 months. From the Sig Mosquito (my first) to mt Les Baer TRS... The Sig Pro, factoring in everything The New Guy pointed out, is the one gun I suggested to my brother buying. Value, Sig CS (my brother got a lemon...Sig gave him a new one plus a free mag and range bag in a timely manner), quality, and best DA/SA out of the box IMO.

It's simply a great gun. That's the gun in my micro gunvault.

The Sig Pro series was originally built for LEO use in Europe. Sig landed a major contract with this gun. It should be a good enough gun for your security duties.

The SigPro is a great gun and the best new gun value in their line. If you don't mind buying used, you can get a German Police P6 for about $50 less and a LE trade-in 226/228 for about $50-$100 more.

The country's foremost Sig gunsmith carries a SigPro in 357SIG when he is working as a reserve deputy...and he has his choice of any Sig or high-end 1911 he'd want to carry

I really like the tactical look of the SP 2022. Sig needs to better embrace this model as a staple since the P250 blew dog.




PS- I would buy one, but the slide release just bothers me.
