Glock 34 or a 17?

I've been contemplating adding a full size glock to my collection. I do own a 19 (one of my favorite guns of all time) and am about to pick up a 26... but decided it would be nice to round out the system with a 34 or 17.

Anyone own both and can give me their assessment of the pros and cons? Is the 1" difference in sight radius a huge bonus?

Do you notice a difference in recoil or reacquisition of target?

Since this will be more of a range gun, I wonder if i wouldn't be better served with a Glock 17c. Although i wonder if the c versions are available in CA?

I have a 17, personally if i could do over or trade it, I would for a 34 in a heart beat. Don't get me wrong I love the 17 but it's only a range gun and I think I would be better served with a 34 to pull that duty.

Almost got a 17RTF, really liked the feel of it. The 34 felt awkward, but I shot it pretty well.


Ended up with a CZ 75 SA though.

That's interesting, I didn't realize the 34 had a different trigger pull from the 17.

Isn't the 17 set to 5 pounds or so?

17C is on the roster. I bought one recently. Expect to special order them. The 17C comes from the factory with the standard 5LB trigger. A 3.5LB connector changes that of course.

my 17C is obviously the top left one. My favorite out of my 3 Glocks.

All good! The only difference in the trigger between the G34 and G17 is the connector. The G34 uses a 3.5# connector while the G17 uses the 5# connector. You can get a "G34 trigger" by buying the 3.5# connector.

Get both. 17 first, then 34. Remember, the 17 can shoot underwater if you install the maritime spring cups and load it with FMJ ammo ONLY.

34 if you can afford better ammo, i hear it needs more umph to cycle properly.

I have both, the 34 goes to the range 10 times for every trip the 17 goes. I really like the extra length of the 34. Also, the 34 with a light and laser attached is my house gun. I have never had a ftf or any other kind of failure with my 34. I shoot all the basic ( read cheap) range ammo, but mostly speer lawman in the blue box, because it is the cheapest factory ammunition I can find.

I have both the g17 and the g34. The 34 is just a range or competition rig.
Both are exceptional guns.
