Anyone ordered ammo from "Ballistic Supply LLC" before?

    Hi all.

I'm tempted to pick up some ammo for my S&W 500 from Ballistic Supply in Idaho, but since I never ordered from them and they're a small company, I thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone bought from them before and if you know if they're good?

(I have no specific reason to think they're bad or anything, but I tend to be a bit paranoid when buying on the internet, especially from small shops, and I recently got burned buying something else online, so I thought I'd ask first.
Especially since .500 ammo is expensive so it's not like ordering a tiny thing from some random shop.)

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

That's the thing though, they're a tiny shop so they don't have a webcart set up.
To buy from them, I'd be either giving them my credit card number over e-mail (a big no-no), or sending them a check by snail mail and then just waiting...

Hence my wanting to ask here first.

I'll probably just order one item and see what happens, as a test order. That way if something happens I just lose $100 or so. (I wish .500 ammo was a cheaper thing so that it was possible to do smaller tests than that much already...)

They seem fine, but it's just a case of wondering if something is too good to be true, like last time I got burned.

Just went to their website and found this on their how to order page.

        How To Order

        Release

First things first - in order to keep the government happy, we have a little paperwork to take of care. This is a one time requirement. We keep your release on file for future orders.

        1. Go to the Release page.

        2. Print out and sign the release.

        3. Attach a copy of your driver's license.

        4. Return the paperwork by e-mail to bramlett@qroidaho.net OR USPS to:

Ballistic Supply, LLC, P.O. Box 81, Kooskia, ID 83539

We must have a signed release form and ID to fill ammunition orders.
        Payment
        # Prices listed do not include shipping.
        # We accept money orders, Visa or Mastercard.
        # Credit card payments require a 4% processing fee added to the total.
        # Idaho residents add 6% sales tax.
        Things To Remember
        # Ammunition must be shipped via UPS Ground service so please plan ahead for your special hunting or shooting event.

        # Please give 7-10 days lead time to get your order shipped. Most of our customers would rather wait a day or two than have us raise our prices to get more help.

        # Please DO NOT send credit card numbers by e-mail. Call us to give us your card number or e-mail us your phone number so we can call you.

They specifically say not to send your CC via e-mail, but to call them to order and give them your CC #.

As mentioned before go ahead and use your CC you will be protected by your CC company.
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I'm not too comfortable giving it to someone on the phone either though. It's not a secure method.

As for the paperwork, I know. That's why I mentioned mailing them a check, this is the conclusion I had came to on the phone after talking to the owner, that it would be simpler for me to send the check by mail along with the paperwork since I'd be mailing them that as well.

I was just wondering if anyone here had ordered from them before and could give a review of them, but if not, it's fine too. They seem like nice people.

          Thank you though.

Giving it over the phone is no less and no more secure then ordering from a new company online. For all you know, the website could just be saving your info to a text file for Kevin Mitnick (who once suggested a "50% off" site was the best way to phish for CC numbers)

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Yeah, it's one of the things that makes me paranoid about anything related to CCs, actually. It's so easy for someone to keep the info. There's so much that can go wrong. (Not that checks are 100% safe, but well, it's more of a pain for people to fraud with that. Too bad that over the net we can't pay cash. )

When I order something from a new place I never tried before, I tend to prefer using paypal if possible or if not then check because if it goes bad I'll just not receive the items I bought, but at least people won't have my CC info to potentially resell later.

This shop seems fine though, I'll just make a small order to see and report on it later.

One of the things you can do to avoid giving out your real CC # is to check with your CC company about "Secure Online Account Numbers" as Discover Card calls them. They generate a one time number that you can use to place an order online. Once that number has been used it can never be used again.

I know Discover Card and Citi Card both have Virtual Account Numbers and I have used them both. The only problem I had was that I returned an item that i used a Virtual Account Number for with Discover and it took a little bit longer to make the adjustment to my account.

MimiT, Ballistic Supply are great folks! Very happy with their .500 S&W Sample pack. Also ordered a box of just their 700gr. These things are impressive. I sent a check and everything went smooth and communications/expectations were made clear. I would definitely order again... not sure how quickly I can shoot though 700gr loads though

                    They are good to go.

700 gr., do it. You know you want to.

I didn't know about the one-time only number for CCs. I have to look into that, it sounds interesting. Thanks, morrcarr67!

And thank you so much for the info on the shop, REPR3D and TKM! The 700gr are exactly what I was going to order!
(Well, I'll start with their sample pack because I want to try some of the other ones they have as well, but it's the 700gr that made me decide to order from them. I've been wanting to try those for a long time now.)

I might get a glove if I start to shoot 700gr often. Sounds like the recoil will be quite something. But that's part of why it's so fun also.

A friend of mine picked up a Handirifle in 500.

I'm stuck with a 5 inch JR PC special, for now.

The vendor can use the number again. I used a Secure Online Number to pay for a TLS certificate from GoDaddy because I needed it quick. A year later they charged me for a renewal of the certificate using the same number. I called Discover to find out what as going on and, after passing through about six different people, I was told that the number can be reused by the original seller account. On a positive note I was able to cancel the "secure" number without having to cancel the card.

Why are people so paranoid about giving your credit card number online? If it ever is stolen, you can call your CC company and have 100% of it refunded to you and then just get a new card with new numbers. It's really not a big deal these days and happens so frequently that the banks all have it down to a pretty quick process.

If it bugs you that much, just get a wholly separate CC with a smaller limit *just* for online purchases.
