But back to the topic........I recommend any 1911 that fits you best and you shoot best with. Brand don't matter.
i am glad we have an authority like you on here to teach us what's up. all this time i have been happy with my TRP when i should have pulled my hair out trying others and then pull my hair out trying to decide which one.

i'll just end by saying the 2nd best race series in the world (WRC), 2nd only to Forumula-1, has Evo's and WRX's as champions. What has the viper won? But hey what do I know. Laptimes does not matter as long you have foo foo companies like Les Baer making the parts

Good, I'm always happy to help. If you'd like to learn to shoot that "Viper" of yours at greater distances, I also give private instruction for The Firing Line in HB.

I am also happy to troubleshoot and fix problematic 1911's.

And stop pulling your hair out....you'll regret it.

Exactly! The Viper won the "World Drift Championship" while the WRX won the "World Rally Championship" One goes through tight country roads, in the dry, in the wet, in the dirt, and in the ice... while the other is like a figure skating conteset where there are judges to rate how pretty the Drift is

So you're disregarding that they won their class in 24 Hours of Lemans??? I didn't even know about the drifting portion or I would have just removed it.

thanks for the offer on fixing problematic 1911's... I know that will come in handy one day.

As for learning how to shoot a 1911 at distance.. I don't know, do we really need to learn how to shoot at more than 10 yards (30 ft)? I thought sidearms were emergency weapons to be used in vehicles, and as a last resort when your M4 goes down.

I always thought if I only had a sidearm left, I should be learning extracting methods (basically Get the hell out), and not performing full frontal assaults. I am glad to know that I my 1911 is a capable sniper weapon.

My guns are sporting and recreational items. My car is transportation but in an emergency, it can get me to the ER.

How many people do you know who have ever used a handgun in self defense other than a military or LEO situation?

I believe on this board, only Chris has been in that situation.

I've drawn twice while living in Florida, no shots were taken.

so for a recreational item i should try many and pull out my hair on making a decision? and i have used a 1911 as a self defense weapon before, while searching bunkers in iraq, i never got to shoot it (other than at the range) but still... i used it

Sounds like a military issue. What unit were you in where you were issued a 1911?

IMO, if SD is the only reason for owning the gun, then there is no need to spend more than $350 for a Ruger.

Yes I could have bought a $350 Ruger for a sidearm. But I much would rather have a pretty TRP. I did not know Patton was the only one allowed to have a pretty gun for a side arm.

54th Engr Battalion (Combat) in SA, Iraq, and Kuwait. 1990-1991.
Actually it was not my issued weapon. I had a SAW. It was my squad leaders weapon.

                        54th, Bravo Company, 2nd platoon, 2nd Squad

We found some AK's in the Bunkers

It was this POS 1911 right here, shoulder holstered

I don't know what you are talking about. Was it a "24 hour Lemans" race with only Vipers? Because it is not on the list I have seen of Lemans champion. Here is the list that I saw. Is it wrong?

You're looking at the Overall winners which is won by whatever top prototype class is running, like I posted above they've won their class which was GT2.

I'm sorry, but a WRX and Evo were designed for an entirely different purpose than a Viper. I would say that's like trying to compare a Hammerli to a 500S&W. You really can't. Sure, they're all cars. Sure, they're all guns. Sure, I can shoot them both at targets and compare. In the end, they fulfill different purposes. Why force an analogy that doesn't work?

Now, getting back to the subject at hand. I don't know what it is, but every time I pick up a Springfield it doesn't feel right. It might be that I know it was made somewhere south of the equator. I'm just not a fan. Yes, I've shot them. Yes, I've shot the TRP (what's the hype?). The more I look at 1911's, the more I want my next to be something made by a custom shop. That being said, I think if I were to buy a starter 1911, I'd probably buy a Kimber Stainless.

In the end, I really don't think you'll be disappointed with any of them. I have a nice variety of pistols. I still really like the feel of shooting my 1911's. On many days, they're my fav.

I betcha if I get a worldwide list of EVO's or WRX's winners it would be much longer. Do you have any laptimes of the cars on the same track? I would be curious to see that. To me, the only thing that gets better than WRC is Formula-1. I am not a big fan of straight of left turn racing.
