Glock Rough Textured Frame Questions (RTF2)

I am getting a Glock 22. I am deciding on the Gen 3 Glock 22 or the Gen 3 Glock 22 (RTF2). I really like the RTF2, because I get sweaty hands after a while of shooting. And I kind of like the look of the RTF2 too. My question is this. The people at the gun range are telling me that RTF2, makes your hands bleed and hurt after about 500 rounds. Is that true? and they also said, it gets caught on your clothes and holster. I am getting the gun for the police academy, and eventually use for duty when I become a police officer.

Any suggestions and true comments welcome!

dude there is no way that it will make your hands bleed, and if they do it was 4 or 5 times that round count. I could however see the grip tape add ons doing that though.

I personally am quite fond of the RTF2 frames for the Gen 3 Glocks. I just picked up a G22 RTF2 about three months ago and cannot understand why Glock would discontinue its production. Sure the texture is abrasive but its supposed to be, thats why I bought it.

The primary role of my G22 serves is for HD ( p.s. - it wears a surefire x300 and has had 0 malfunctions in 2k rounds). Given this function I wanted something that would stick to my hand like glue under high stress situations and that is exactly what it does.

As per the claim of it making your hand hurt after 500 rounds, that may be accurate, but if you're looking implement that firearm in a similar role or as a service weapon you will be extremely happy. Also, lets face how often will you be putting 500 rounds down range at any given time? For the times that you are (pistol glass) you can deal with it or wear gloves if you're a woman.

I just sold my G19RTF2. The reason I sold it because I have no use for it after I bought my G19 Gen 4. I love the Rough Texture Frame; very comfortable. My question to do you is do you shoot 500 rounds out of the same gun at every range visit? I usually shoot around 300 rounds and i have no problem with the RTF model. I have heard many stories from different officers about the RTF models scratched up their shirt/uniform. It depends on what kind of holster you use.

Thanks guys! Im going to get it. Yeah, I honestly have never shot 500 rounds at once at the range. I personally like the RTF2, but the guys at the range were second guessing my decisions. And the holster that I use, is the Safariland 6280.

PS: The exact pistol I am getting is the Glock 22 (Gen 3) (RTF2) w/ Glock night sights for $604.

Wow. Who ever told you that was either a girl or a man with girly hands. The exaggeration is ridiculous, what a &#$$*. I really like my G17RTF2 and would never pick a regular Gen3 over it. The grip really sticks the gun to your hand nicely. It's not exactly a sand paper either. I even prefer my G17RTF2 over a Gen4, its the perfect 9mm in my opinion.

I would imagine that just like when you use a tool excessively, even if you have really girly hands, your hands will eventually man up.

If you need to CCW an RTF2, put a hogue grip on it. Problem solved.

My advise it to get the RTF2 and don't look back. Unless you're a manicurist or something.......

I bought the 22 RTF2 w/Glock night sights from yzernie (a seller on this board (search in commercial sales) for $550 (new of course). I have a Gen 4 and I prefer the RTF2. YMMV.

No problems here, just took a 2 day advanced course 1200 rds +. The RTF is GTG. Need to update the round count to 3750.

Hey there sir, I am an owner of a Glock 17RTF for about 6 months now and I love this gun! I must say that if you have soft hand that you may notice it ex-foliating your hand a bit LOL as my military buddy says, but so what men are supposed to have rough hands. To me I was thinking that if the sh*t hits the fan one day and your hands start sweating your gun is not going anywhere. Happy shooting

I can't see how the RTF would irritate your hand that much unless you did not have a firm grip on the pistol the whole day and it has been shifting around in your hand (which it should not be...that's the whole point of the RTF!).

Aside from all of that...think about it from the practical standpoint.....it's a Glock. Frame is plastic. If those little pyramids bother you that much, apply a couple of light strokes with fine sandpaper to knock down the tips.....repeat until satisfied with the texture.

Personally, I think the RTF is the best feeling Glock texture I have handled. Can't understand myself why they discontinued them (I guess the expect the Gen4 to supplant all else....)

I've owned my Glock 17 RTF2 for almost a year now and I've never experienced anything close to having my hands bleed from shooting it. All be it, I haven't put 500 rounds through it in one outing. A little over 400 is probably the closest I've put down the barrel in one day and my hands have come no where near making them bleed. The only reason I stopped was because I ran out of ammo.

It might make a sissies hands bleed just don't wear gloves with Vasoline to bed at night and you should be fine. Me personally I don't like the fish gills but I could overlook that due to the fact that the RTF is just that has a better grip I hate OEM Glock grips I have sand decal grips on all my Glocks. When you become a police officer you'll be able to buy a Gen4 Glock so either way you'll be good to go.

Not necesarry. Just put a hogue grip on it. I personally wouldn't sand the frame.

After handling or shooting my G17 RTF2, the "standard" Glock frames feel slippery/slick. I like the RTF and haven't had bleeding hands yet.
