Just asked the store today. I think they can do a special order for me on the RIA 1911 9mm for around $450. Still debating if i really need another gun. I am broke as hell especially during the holiday season.

You need to do a bit more research!

There are also the Springfield and Para Ordnance P18. They are not that reliable. I've had many FTF on 9mm 1911 depending on ammo. I tried the three brands (Blazer, Winchester, and Federal) at Walmart and none have perform 100%.
I would get serious custom reliability work before I will carry a 9mm 1911.

The EMP may be different because of the shorter slide.

I have an EMP and love it. The only down side to the pistol imho is that they no longer drill and pin the ejector. It is loc-tite'd (sp?) to the frame. Mine worked loose and made it very difficult to strip the gun.

I contacted SA and the factory would not drill and pin it, they told me I would have to send it to the custom shop to have it drilled and pinned on my dime (4 to 6 weeks).

I sent it to Alan Tanaka to drill and pin...

The RIA 9mm can be had, as per some jrara's experience, pretty affordably via Valkyrie Arms and the single-shot exempt work they do. That one was $560 otd, iirc.

I held a 5" Kimber Stainless Target II over at the local shop and it's pretty slick... I love stainless pistols, I dunno why... and Kimber does a really nice job. That particular one ran $1089 plus fees (it's on the CA roster).

I asked for a quote on a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry II and it would be in the $1100 otd neighborhood via single-shot exemption, so it's right on par with the Target II model in pricing, but has the 4" barrel that I would prefer.

I've read a bit about the reliability issues people have had with their various flavors of 9mm 1911, so it's definitely not a brand-specific thing that I've seen... they all can have issues. I guess there are still kinks in the 1911 designs for the 9mm chambering or something. I do love the format though... not many choices for SA-only semi-auto 9mm pistols out there. The Browning Hi-Power just doesn't seem to float my boat for some reason, not sure why.

Due to ammo costs, I'm sticking to my decision to stay with 9mm! I'll keep saving beans and lusting for a Kimber Stainless, I think.

I bougt a Kimber stainless target 2 about 5 years ago when walmart 9mm was 11.55 a box. The first problems was the Walmart ammo was a little weak so I put in a 10lbs wolf sping that our local range pistol smith had. That help a lot. Much latter on when the Wilson 10 round 9mm mags came out that was the best thing for my gun . It is now so reliable I would carry it. The metalform mags that all the target boys used before needed to much a tweaking to make run good for my taste. Wilson simply put just solved that issue. The trigger out of the box is the fiinest trigger I have ever felt on any productin 1911. It needs nothing. Compared to a hand fitted 1911 there is almost no difference. I may of just got lucky but with the trigger and the normal Kimber barrel , mine is very very accurate. I have over 30,000 rounds of mostly Walmart white box through it in the last 5 years. It still runs and looks great. I have a few other 1911's and I will never ever learn to like dealing with the swartz saftey on any Kimber 2 . One more thing is the extracter gets filthy faster that a 45acp . I clean almost every time I get done shooting it. Then I have deal with that swartz firing pin thing .
Good luck , do get a 1911 in 9mm and get lots of Wilson mags.

I love mine and find them not finicky at all. A 9mm Colt Commander or Combat Commander is a lot of fun and a great pistol.

Do you know if Colt Commander 9mm came in Stainless? Because i was searching the other night for one on gunbroker but they were all blue?
