    RIA 1911

I know people say these are good...but would they be able to survive a pistol class, say a Magpul carbine class or something like that?

I know it'll last for plinking but how will they fare when you run the gun hard

Why wouldn't it. These guns are built just as good as the other 1911's out there, and though not as smooth as the higher end 1911's. The stock trigger on the RIA is really nice, crisper and lighter than alot of 1911's out there. They are more reliable than alot of more expensive 1911's out there also. And they are atleast as accurate as most 1911's out there. The only thing I don't like about the RIA is the finish, but you just can't beat the price and what you get for it. It definitely has no blings or anything to write home about as far as cosmetics. But it is a reliable workhorse not a show car. I don't own one but have shot one and I'm leaning towards getting one as my first 1911 that I actually own. I also like the S&W 1911's. This is the most underrated sleeper 1911 in the market today like the RIA. They are very nice, accurate, and very reliable.

I put 300 rounds through mine in about an hour. It gun was super hot, but did just fine. I don't know how much you will be shooting at a time but I would bet that my RIA Tactical could handle just about anything!

There are a couple of parts on a 1911 that see the most stress ; thumb safety & slide stop. I guess by association the barrel link & pin too.

If I was to buy one of these and thought it would see hard use, I'd swap out the thumb safety, slide stop and probably barrel bushing as I've seen them break too. Do they come with a full length guide rod ? If not, I'd put one in.

A friend of mine has had one for almost a year now. I don't believe he has had a single issue with it. I've shot it on a few occassions and I mut say I was impressed. Great 1911 for the price. I've heard a few people say they believe there made with Kimber parts, but I haven't come across any information that can either confirm or deny their claims.

Since we are talking about dependability and durability, why would you add a full length guide rod?

I've got a RIA tactical with about 2500 rounds through it. I've shot more expensive guns and evidently I am just not a good enough shot to have it make much difference.

I don't worry about 1" groups if I can keep it within 6" circle I am happy. I figure 3" any direction from center mass doesn't make much difference.

The Rock Island should do just fine.

Ive had my ria for a little under a year and i think its seen about 3000 rounds and hours of dry fire. Most problems i had were magazine related (cracked feed lips). If you buy the mags that work for your 1911 i think you would be fine.

I have two RIA 1911 GI spec. Both not showroom quality in looks and features, but dependable and accurate for daily OC in Arizona. (if needed, Colt series 70 parts will fit the RIA)

IMHO, RIA is a lotta' bang for the buck.

Was at the range last night, and went into the pro-shop for a little bit to wait out the rain while shooting trap. Saw a couple of these on display, and asked how the quality of them was his response was "Why do you think they're half price of the nice 1911s?" I trust the guy who told me this, but gun shop FUD seems pretty prevalent everywhere

They are half the price for several reasons. Quality not one of them. They are made in the Philippines where the cost of labor is less and you don't have to pay extra for that nice "Colt" roll stamp on the slide. You might be surprised how much the little thing cost.
                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Maybe he shoulda said "I make half the money on these that I do on the bling 1911 and the 500rds of ammo you'll need to go through before it functions properly."

So far I've been VERY happy with my RIA Tactical. It's purty dang accurate. 100% so far out of the box with 230gr round nose ammo.
