I belong to the group of folks who do not put a weapon light on their SD/HD handgun, because I do not want to point the muzzle at something that I do not intend to shoot. Like I said, if you were outside your house, and you were in a situation where you needed to pull out your pistol, there should be no mistake of the threat. But what if it wasnt a bad guy and you pulled out your light/pistol? Thats why I suggest a hand held flashlight. I gave my reasoning. Whats yours?

Not worth it? Lazy because it takes you a long time to type a response? Or maybe you can get off your high horse and enlighten me

Good quality pistol lights will light up a room pretty well just pointing at the floor from a low ready position, without sweeping potential targets with the muzzle. Even with a seperate light in the off-hand, if your pistol is drawn it will be pointing somewhere. The advantage of the attached light is that it leaves a free hand for openning doors, calling 911, or for superior support of the handgun.

That said I wouldn't recommend ccw'ing with a pistol light attached (too bulky and could interfere with a quick draw if needed) nor do I recommend conducting room-to-room house searches. I'm a believer in the ensconced defender position.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

I know.. but I wanted to hear from him True that the pistol will be drawn, but it will be in the low ready position, fairly safe, and I wouldnt have to muzzle sweep someone. I guess using the pistol with a light attached in a low ready will light up most of the room.

But yes, I wouldnt recommend CCW'ing with a weapon light either. As for the house clearing, our plan is to stay in our rooms, with our HD firearms and a light, on the phone with the cops. But if something was to happen, and one of us has to go out there, it would be me.. Cant sit still if a family member is getting hurt..

Would you like start a different post to discuss the applicability of weapon mounted lights? I'm merely looking for options related to my decision to use a WML.

I do not point my weapon at anything I wont shoot. I carry a handheld flashlight for situations that call for one. I also carry a leatherman, hankercheif and a gun belt that can be used for repelling, LOL. I'll put more tools in my toolbox and use them when the situation calls for it.

This is my point. I shoot in a defensive pistol league. Even a crummy light pointed at the ground will illuminate a large size room good enough to make identifications.

When seconds count, I have out performed folks who won't put a light on their weapon enough times to convincingly determine what works best for me.

Umm.. if you read my posts, you would see that I understand and see the benefit of a weapon light. But with CCW, its a lil hard to do, and is safer with a hand held light. If there was a threat, you pull out the pistol and shoot. You dont light him up, then shoot; seconds count right? All Im saying is, with a hand held, its safer to ID the threat then to pull out your pistol everytime you need to light up something.

But it sounds like you got everything figured out and know what works for you. Well, I wish I could CCW a 45acp pistol with a light, Im jealous
