    ULTIMATE CCW

    Hello fellow calgunners.

Looking for a little help on an upcoming purchase. I'm looking to finish my M&P45 with a Surefire X400 and a holster. This will be a CCW setup.

Obvious choice is a Raven Concealment holster. Not wanting to wait 12-13 weeks, are there any other options for a light compatible top quality IWB holster? What kind of clips are you guys using?

Any other info you'd like to share that I should be considering?

    Thank you!

Is 12-13 weeks the current wait time on a raven? Jeese! Maybe I should place my order BEFORE I get my M&P....

The last thing I would put on my CCW gun would be a light attachment. Maybe for a house gun, but not for one I am carrying concealed.

Check out this guy. I spoke with him via email a few times and he's quick to respond. Very nice guy, and looks like a top-notch product...

We can argue about why you're wrong, but that's not the purpose of this thread. LOL. Honestly, i'm interested in your reasoning, I've got light switches in the house but not necessarily when CCW'ing.

My present thought pattern, which is constantly progressing based on information I learn and instruction i'm given, is i'll take any tool I can put to use efficiently on my weapon. Hence the light and laser. I shoot competitively, sometimes in low light situations, no question about the effectiveness of a weapon light in that situation, it works. I can think of times/places/situations that make a laser useful, even though I despise shooting with them.

raven takes along time, took almost 16 weeks for the one i bought for my usp45f w/surefire x300. its a good holster, but not as good as i expected for the amount of money and wait. i wont buy another.

i do have a fobus for my glock 22. the plastic is not super hard plastic, so there is some flexing, but it does not compromise the security of the weapon. i actually like this one better then my raven. and look, they make them for m&p full sizes guns.

Time to nut up, or shut up.

For me, I think an attached light is a very useful tool, but when I carry concealed my emphasis is on being able to conceal the gun the easiest way and it seems that a light attachment would add unnecessary bulk to have to cover and carry. When I carry concealed I have the mindset that I may need it in a split second against an attack and a light attachment wouldn't be of much use. On the other hand, if I hear someone trying to enter my house at night and it's pitch dark, an attached light would make a great tool. All I know is that the lighter and easier a gun is to conceal, the better.

Raven is worth the price and wait.

A light on a concealed carry gun is a valid investment and I would not underestimate the necessity of using one (if one can properly conceal it).

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I agree with BOTH posts and the thought behind it, but from everything that I have read online and in this forum, adding any attachments, lasers, lights, or special ammunition will give the blood sucking lawyers a chance to state that you were out looking for trouble. We all have been told repeatedly that our daily carry weapon should not be "sentimental" or "special" to us because after an incident it will be stripped, dipped, and picked apart. Just dont want a bad situation worse by having to prove a light was just an add on, not a way to look for trouble. Just my opinion, but I am sure this will stir the pot.

I just ordered a NTAC holster. Its just like the Raven holsters. You can wear it IWB or OWB with additional belt loops. I got the additional OWB Loops and paid $75 shipped. They also make holsters to fit light attachments as well. Check them out at ntacholsters.com. Oh, its a 20 to 30 day wait instead of 12 weeks.

Any advantage that you can provide yourself in a gunfight that will allow you to go home at night to your family is all fair play.

There is no case law that supports your argument.

I've CCW'd almost every day for over a decade now and if you can do it with a flashlight mounted on the gun comfortably more power to ya. I just carry a flashlight next to my extra magazine.

This might sound dumb but why do u need to carry a flash light. I have an admazing led pen light in my tatical shirt that would work but I still dont get where there would be the need for a light In the pratical world.

                          Forgive my ignorance

                            CONCEALMENT

That's the ultimate CCW setup. Right now it would be something like an LCP with a pocket clip. You can shove it in a waistband and go jogging, hell it'll conceal in board shorts, NO t-shirt and flip flops....and I know this first hand.

Most of the time I carry a mid size .40 using an IWB setup. I personally could not carry anything larger or bulkier. Your build, clothing and surroundings dictates what you can and cannot conceal. I would suggest actually trying on your clothing that you would wear in the summer and decide if you can actually carry an X-400 in jeans and a t-shirt. You don't even need a holster, just shove it in the positions and cant that you would normally CCW (or would) in and see how well that X-400 does.

I will tell you right now that you will have a heck of a time trying to carry that setup without looking like some uber-tactical secret agent man every day of the week year round. I bet you did not even think about CCW while jogging or going to the beach with family. And that's the whole point of having a CCW, to have a pistol on you as much as possible in as many places as possible.

You found someone to make you an IWB for the X400? I'd rather have the X300 and Crimson Trace Laser Grips personally.
