as long as your photo ID is still valid a government form (aka dmv printout) with your address should still be valid.. it only counts as one form of ID even if its two seperate items..Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

Ah, the brown address change card. Even when you have one in your possession, does DMV even know ???
I wonder how many people in CA are waiting on CDLs? I'm in the same boat as my license expired next week. Yes I sent the renewal, they cashed the check, then nothing. I called to see if my license was lost and they said no, we just haven't printed it yet. They confirmed it was renewed and had the corrected address, yet they have now changed the format of the actual license and it seems there is some backlog. DMV could not advise how long it would take to get these printed, so I asked what should I do in the meantime, carry a copy of my cashed renewal check if I get stopped ... if I need to fly for business, what do I do with no photo ID ??? The clerk said "well you can get a temp I.D., but that won't have your photo ... uh... I don't know".
Note, I said above corrected address. I had AAA submit my address change and they handed me the brown card, date stamped and all, along with my renewed registration and new print out. I carried that card and even DROS'ed several times with it, yet when DMV sent my renewal, it went to the old address. I called DMV to find out why, and he said they threw out any papers other than registration when AAA submits them. Even for my CDL renewal if I checked the address change box and wrote the new one on the back of the form, he said they would not process it. Why ? ... 'it's all computers and there's no staffing now'. He said the only way was to also submit a form 14 along with the CDL renewal as that would get kicked out of the computer and it would be the only way to get it actually looked at by a human. I wouldn't have believed that except my wife did the address change bit on the form back in Jan and her new CDL also was sent to the old place with the old address printed.
DMV, what a wonderful agency. Since the DMV screwed up, my wife had to actually go in to get a new license. When she tried to make an appointment for her new CDL, she could only get an appointment in 3 to 4 months at any of the local (within 40 miles) locations. I just heard this past week that DMV closed two more offices in SoCal, and they are not just on Fridays, they are 'until further notice'. Despite them being a state agency, I wonder is it possible for DMV to go belly up altogether?
As for the OPs question, brown card is good, and the address on it apparently doesn't matter either as DMV can't figure it out. As long as your CDL swipe shows clean, it seems like the DROS will go through regardless of what is typed in the DROS or written on the 4473 and your brown address card.Last edited by allenst65; 11-14-2010, 3:31 PM.Comment

I really don't like answering this question...it generally only turns into a "yes you can", "no you can't" tennis match...
"Technically"...the brown card is a no-go for the Federal "supporting documentation" requirement when the address on your ID is no longer your correct address. The reason being the brown card has no expiration date, and in the Federal requirement...the supporting documentation of your correct address is "supposed" to have an expiration date.
