Ruger revolvers are top notch and doubt anyone talks smack about them. Their semiautos on the other hand are regarded as lesser quality, less reliable, etc than other brands. I don't own any Ruger semiauto so I can't verify, but have held one, and I don't like the feel of their P series. I ahven't held an SR9 or any of the newer ones though. The new LCR and pocket pistols are getting rave reviews though.

The problem is that Ruger has decided to put their $$$ into a first rate Customer Service department and let the customer do their QA for them.

      I own 4 Rugers. Let's see...

KP90. Extracter issues and crap magazines (four from two different sources) right out of the box. Extractor and mags fixed by Ruger. But wait. The new 8rd mag followers dig a crater in the mag well. Springs & followers replaced by me with 7rd kits from old Ruger mags. Runs well now and is proving to be pretty accurate & reliable.

10/22 All Weather. The "stainless" paint started peeling off the aluminum receiver the first time it tasted Hoppes. Gummed up the works. Runs pretty well now, tho. IMO an over rated rifle.

22/45. Flawless out f the box. Nice pistol. Overpriced but I got mine on sale @ $200, so I'm happy.

Mini 30. Bought used, haven't been to the range yet. Can NOT find 10 rd mags for it. Not available from the Ruger catalog. Forget aftermarket. Mostly crap.

On a side note, I don't own a Super Redhawk and never will. Holy moly, that thing looks like it was put together by Soviet peasants after a bad vodka bender...

By whom? My own KP90 notwithstanding, the P series has a pretty solid rep as about the best bang for the buck out there. After sorting out my own issues I've been VERY happy with mine.

I've had my P89 for several decades. It has a crisp clean trigger and with thousands of rounds through it, I cannot recall one single misfeed/misfire. I did have it ramped and polished when I first got it so that it would feed blunt nosed hollow points better. Siince then, not one issue!

I used to own a GP100. It would lock up on me randomly and occasionally. No idea what the problem was. I ended up selling it and I don't miss it.
My brother owns a P89 that lets me shoot when we go together to the range. Great gun and very precise.

Rugers are great guns. The SP101 is probably my favorite. I own several Ruger revolvers, a couple rifles and the 22/45 and I like them all. They are all high quality and reliable with a modest price tag. While I'm not a fan of their semiautos compared to other brands, they seem to be built very durable. I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Rugers.

I love my 22/45. Best bang for the buck IMO. Every shooter should own one!

Have a P94 in 9mm. Great gun. Loaned it to a friend for a handgun class not too long ago. Prior to that, it had been sitting for years. Performed flawlessly.

I own 9 handguns and 3 rifles out of those only 1 handgun and 1 rifle is NOT a Ruger. I started out with a GP100 as my first handgun loved shooting it and still do. I have 2 Vaqueros 44 mag and a 45 convertible and have lots of fun shooting those. I have the SR9 and the SR9c both good shooters, around 4K through the SR and 1K through the C with NO problems at all. I have a P94 9mm and a P944 40 cal, I bought these to go with my PC9 and PC4 all of which I have had NO problems with and love to shoot those PC rifles. Last is my MKIII Target great little 22 but a little picky with the ammo other wise a fun shooter. I've had other brands of guns but was just not happy with them not that they were not good guns they just did not fit me. I enjoy my Rugers and always will. Rugers are not for everybody just as Smiths, Glocks and other brands are not for everyone we all have different tastes in guns I'm just glad mine are made in the USA and have a great CS that goes with it. my 2 cents, Redhemi

I used to own 2 10/22's that ran perfectly. Now I have a 22/45 that only fails when I hit a dud round.

Over my gun owning career, I've owned a Mini 14, .357 Vaquero, my 10/22 that I'll never get rid of. (70's model) and am 9 days into my wait for my 4" GP100. Never had an issue with any of them and they've all been great guns for me. No hating here.

I've owned several Ruger single action revolvers over the years. I wish I still had every one of them, but I sold them each at the time for financial reasons. My favorite was the .45 LC Vaquero. Last year I bought a new 581 series Mini-14 Stainless. Other than the trigger, I can't really find any faults with it. I had a trigger job done, shortened the barrel about 2" and installed a good muzzle brake. The gun is accurate and just keeps working. I know the old mini-14's got a well deserved bad rap, but the new models seem pretty decent, especially for the price.

My GP100 and Speed Six have never failed. I have a 2nd NIB GP100 in my safe waiting for my daughter's 21st B-Day.
I regret selling my Single Six, Security Six, SP101, P85, and 22/45.
The P85 is especialy regretable because I lost the ability to legally own Hi Cap mags when I sold it. The gun was 100% reliable, I just did not care too much for it.
The 22/45 is the biggest pain to reassemble after cleaning of any semi-auto I have ever worked on. This is probably my biggest complaint out of any Ruger.
The Ruger I really want to own someday is a Redhawk in .41 mag with a 7.5" Barrel. I shot one many years ago and fell in love with the Big Ole Cannon.
                          I also want a Mini 14 someday.
Anyone that tells you Rugers are not reliable has probably not had much experience with guns.
