But no kids at home, gun is put is secured in safe when I'm not there and wife has her own .38 snub!

I didn't at first, because I was not confident around firearms. In fact I didn't even keep a mag in the well. Now with more experience and practice I feel fine keeping a round in the chamber. Should I actually need the gun it's that much faster to get into play.

Of course it stays in a gunvault because I have a small child.

If I was woken up by an intruders attack - I'd rather have a knife than an unchambered sidearm.

Anyone of us would have a hard time racking that slide with one hand - Given the many different situations where you might be fighting an intruder while trying to grab your HD weapon.

No kids at home - And my dogs always give plenty of warning - But ICSH - I'm GTG with one in the pipe for my sidearm.

However - I keep the Mossberg fully loaded but unchambered - In case a threat is down stairs.

The command to leave + The sound of the pump action may be enough to scare them away...

That's what I thought. But it wasn't about taking the time to rack the slide. I just didn't want to have to make any noise in order to be ready. If there's a round in the chamber, then I can control the point of contact and become vocal to intruders if need be.

i don't have a nightstand gun, but my HD pistol is in the safe in condition 1. since it takes me time to get into the safe i need every second i can get.
