Duenor, I think you need a Barsto 9mm conversion barrel, and not a 9mm replacement factory barrel. I haven't done this yet, but I have one Barsto conversion on order for my 226.

I just tried it right now (swapped out my friend's 9mm p229 barrel for my other friend's 40 barrel). it seems to fit perfectly and i racked the gun several times without any problem.

if this works, i think i'll buy a p229r in 40 and then get the 9mm barrel.
I guess you did not read the whole thread, this was my earlier response:

      Code:
If it is a .357 Sig or .40SW, you can also get a 9mm Luger barrel for it from Bar-sto (but you cannot go from 9mm to .357 Sig/.40).
Important, do not use a standard factory 9mm barrel in a .357 Sig/.40SW. You have to buy a 9mm conversion barrel from Bar-Sto.It might need a little fitting or you can send your slide to Bar-Sto and they will fit it for free.

Where is a good place to pick up a sig in Southern California (Los Angeles area). Thanks.
I prefer the P229 but have both and will keep them both.
BTW, you are in luck, if I lived in LA I would so jump on this deal.

If your carry gun is a G19, and you shoot the Glock system the most and like it, I'd recommend a Glock as your HD gun too. If you want a full size gun in .40, consider a G22.

If you want to use the Sig system, get one for carry and one for home and train with them, taking out your G19 for play (or sell it).

The trigger on a Sig and a Glock are miles apart, the Sig, depending on variant, has a DA/SA trigger(with a much longer reset than the Glock), and a decocker to learn.

I'm in something of a similar quandry to the OP. I too have 9mm and .45ACP covered and am looking to branch out into the .40S&W/.357Sig crowd. It wasn't until I read this thread that I realized one pistol could do the job of both.

My favorite gun in my whole collection is my 9mm Sig Sauer P226 made in West Germany. That said, the gun I'd like to buy next would have a rail, and would be made entirely from steel. The P226ST meets these requirements, as well as being available in .40S&W. I'm not really ready to poney up $1000 for the thing though - are there cheaper places to buy from? Other guns I should be looking at entirely? The "ST" series are the only Sigs I know of with both a steel slide and frame.

I've also got a SA 1911A1 Loaded to cover the .45ACP aspect, and wouldn't be totally adverse to an all-steel P220, though as I mentioned I'd prefer to branch out across calibers. I also own an H&K USPf 9mm that I am not terribly fond of, polymer frames just don't do it for me. I'm not a fan of compact guns either, and my guns are strictly range toys and nightstand guns, nothing less, nothing more.

Sorry if this is a thread hijack, I'll delete it if it's inappropriate.

The bad news for Zen is SIG already discontinue their ST line, either P220 or P226. The only available option in CA that's still in production is the X5 competition. There is P226 elite stainless but it's not on CA approval list yet.

I love my Sig 229R. It shoots amazingly well and it feels extremely good. It feels better than my Glock and about even with my USPs and 1911s (with each of those having variations I like some days better than others).

If you're looking to add a new caliber to your repertoire, I would definitely agree with the .40/.357sig mix. It's simple to do and costs only the stock barrel as the mags fit.

I would highly recommend the Sig as an addition to your arsenal. It really is a blast to shoot. I like the smaller size of the 229, but the 226s I've used are great too. I don't think you gain much in compactness from the 229 nor do you gain a ton from the 226s size. It's so much a personal preference.

I know there are a couple up for sale in the forums. In LA I bought a pair from scombs263, all near-new and perfect for a good price. He always seems to be selling a few.

I probably should have mentioned that I am definitely not opposed to buying used, in fact I generally prefer it. I suppose I'll have to camp out in the for sale section then.
