Anybody handled the new Sig GSR C3 compact 1911 with external extractor? Clint Smith gave it pretty good copy in the July issue of FMG GUNS. $1067.00. "3C" means carry, concealed, compact. I like the looks of it. Clint calls it reliable.

I like the look and feel of the "classic" Sigs: rail-less, stamped slide 226, 200, 225, 228's. However, having said that, the 229 in 40S&W shoots like a dream. I think the extra heft of the stainless slide dampens the recoil very well.

Sig Sig Sig... the greatest handguns. +1 on the P229 .40 for your first and getting a .357 barrel for it.

Since you own a USP45 and G19 9mm I recommend you try the P226 in .40 and get the factory Sig .357 interchangeable barrel. It's awesome! The P229 is a good choice as well but I prefer the fullsize P226. I don't see a reason for a P229 unless you are to carry it as a duty weapon. It's too bulky and heavy for ccw anyways. The only problem now is that you will have more types of ammo to stock. Some don't like that and like me I once stuck with only 9mm and .45 as my pistol caliber of choice. Now I like variety and own a bunch of choices. Whatever Sig you choose you can't go wrong just don't buy a mosquito .22.

The only thing I don't like about the P220 is that you're limited to 8 rounds. I'd rather get a 1911 instead if I'm to be held to 8 rounds. If you're concerned about ammo costs, go 9mm. If you're not going to carry, go p226 unless you like the compact look.

Not sure you're limited to 10 rounds on the P220 - I'm waiting to pick one up after the waiting period elapses (P220R Carry SAO) and was doing some research on magazine - SIGARMS sells a 10 rounder here ($44 ? Ugh - makes me reach for my trusty lightsaber... ) - I assume it's CA legal though:

Ouch...$45 bucks for a 10 round magazine...when most other manufacture have a 10 as the standard.

But still...Sigs are pretty sweet. Even after they split from their swiss company

Sig P220 are single stack .45. That's why they come with 8 round mags. The 10 round mags most likely will stick out from the grip.

Sigs are like OLL. You won't be able to just buy one. So your real question should be which Sig should I buy first . They are all really different creatures. I went through all the phases 229, 220, 226 etc... I wouldn't sell any of them.

I like the look of Non-railed Sigs more and I just picked up a P-226 to add to my collection. All my Sigs are the Folded Carbon Steel slides and all three are made in West Germany :-). Excellent pistol to say the least. I picked up my P-226 and P-220 from JC Weaponry on Sig Forums for a deal. He has a P-226 CPO (certified Pre-owned) for $499 shipped I believe in .40 and since we can't have Hi-cap mags ask him to knock off the price a little for the mags. He's really reasonable and quick.

does anyone know if i can use a 9mm p229 barrel in a 40 s&w p229?

I just tried it right now (swapped out my friend's 9mm p229 barrel for my other friend's 40 barrel). it seems to fit perfectly and i racked the gun several times without any problem.

if this works, i think i'll buy a p229r in 40 and then get the 9mm barrel.
