I looked on the 1911 forums and the consensus is the TRP OP does not have MIM parts.

yeah, i read that post too. i guess if i cared enough I would give Debbie at Springfield a call and ask her the list of MIM parts on my TRP.

Yes the TRP (and the Pro) do have some MIM parts. You can find a thread on the 1911 forum (the real 1911 forum not the Greek spin-off one) where Dave Williams stated which parts in the Pro are MIM. The TRP uses cherry picked parts but are the same as the Loaded so it does have a few more MIM parts.

WRT to these two guns, anyone who has ever shot both can tell you that both guns will feel very different in your hand. SA and Kimber use a different frame cut. The chekcering will also make a difference in feel.

Make sure you handle each gun before you buy. One will feel better to you than the other.

FWIW, I've never had a MIM part break in any of my 1911's. I've just had forged, cast and barstock parts break. Anything can break but if MIM doesn't break early in it's life, it will last as long as any other part made by any other process.

The TRP wins this comparison, but the MSRP is almost $700 more than the TLE/RL so it better. A better choice from Kimber to compare to the TRP is the Gold Combat RL, the MSRP's are within $100 of each other. I'm using the MSRP because I don't know what kind of prices you can get from your local dealer or online.

I read on the SA portion of another forum that even the SA Pro (the FBI gun) has some MIM so I'm pretty sure that the TRP would also.

If that's the case sign me up! Cuz even the TRP PRO has MIM parts on it, so a regular TRP without any MIM would be great

yeah i too later found out that even the Pro, a $2400 gun has MIM parts. seems you can't avoid MIM unless u can go custom, i saw one really good post on THR about the MIM parts on Springfields. For comparable guns, I really don't see why you would not go Springfield. lifetime warranty vs. 1 yr warranty. seems like a no brainer to me.

I just spoke with one of my local FFL/gun shop owners and I believe he said he might be able to get me a Les Baer Thunder Ranch for about $1500. If this is the 'Sepcial' edition, I'm gonna jump on it. I'll be at his place later today. If all goes well, I'll be getting it soon!

$1500 for a NIB TRS sounds like a great deal.

Well, I'm going to go check and see if it is the special edition. From what the owner tells me, it may take 12+ weeks. I wish it was sooner, but then I'm getting a custom gun. We'll see how it goes tonight.

If you can get a TRS for $1500 you better jump on it!!! MSRP is $1748 and I even got a great deal at $1631 shipped but your deal is spectacular... Especially for brand new and in C.A.

If a Baer breaks, they will fix it if Les determines it was the fault of the gun no matter how old it is. He decides if it's warranty work or not. I've never had a problem dealing with Les but their turnaround isn't the fastest in the business.

OK, now I'm very confused. I just called one of my other local FFL's to check for the Springfield TRP Operator. They said the TRP Operator is no CA-legal and that Springfield discontinued it. This one:

Is this accurate?? I checked the roster that has the PC9105L (ambi safety) / steel (it's missing a P versus Springfield's website). Is this gun still obtainable in CA??
